Swine Flu Vaccinations??

I know that you all in AUS have just gotten through with winter, right??

Well, what I am wondering is how bad did swine flu get in your areas??

Did any of you get the H1N1 (swine flu) vaccination for your child??

We are going to have to make a decision with Jedd's Ped on whether or not to give him this vaccination.....it's a new one, so, I am unsure on what to do.

The down side would be....how BAD would it affect Jedd. He has horrible GI issues and the regular flu does a SERIOUS number on his GI tract.

Just wondering how bad it got for you all and if it got as bad as was predicted??

The news here is making it sound like it will spread like the bubonic Plauge, it's on every single night....it's awful really.

Re: Swine Flu Vaccinations??

friends of ours had swinw flu some with worse symptoms than others, my daughter was suspected of having it and took tami flu to be on the safe side because she is asthamtic but there is still no gaurantee it works , this is a flu they really do not know much about even if you get the shot it there is no gaurantee as they still don't know everything about it they are just using the best option they have available it is not necissarily going to target the swinw flu same as the tammi flu tablets. The media really blew this out of proportion aswell people die from the flu every year. Personally I would never get a flu shot every person I know has gotten really sick from the injection and they tell you you can not but I don't beleive that I think in years to come they will find out those vaccinations are dangerous but that is just my opinion.

Re: Swine Flu Vaccinations??

Here, the swine flu was trumped up by the media way too much. The normal flu that goes around every year is far worse. The reason why it was given so much hype was because of the word "pandemic", which simply meant that it was going to spread very quickly thoughout the population, regardless of the severity of the disease itself. Because many people didn't know what that word actually meant and it was a new unheard of disease, people got scared and the media played on that to sell newspapers and get people watching prime time TV.

Any type of flu is a virus and viruses really don't care too much about what season it is. If you are exposed to the virus, chances are you'll get it no matter what temperature it is outside.

Here, only those that were at genuine risk of severe illness got vaccinations. The sort of people that should be vaccinated every year from whatever strains of flu is being passed around at the time. If anyone in your family needs to have a regular flu vaccination each year, then getting a swine flue vaccination wouldn't be such a bad idea. If you're all healthy and strong, then it isn't something to worry about.

The only people that had swine flu and died here in Australia are those that would have died from a normal flu had they got one. More people have committed suicide in Australia between the time we first heard of swine flu and now than the number of people that have died from the swine flu world wide. Yet, the media doesn't report that because the people in this world aren't interested in reading about it because it doesn't frighten them. What frightens me is that I have to live in that world.

Do your research.

My eldest son we suspected got the swine flu but it was more mild and short lived compared to how I know the flu.

Re: Swine Flu Vaccinations??

I spoke to my doctor about it.  I think the media hyped it up in a huge way.  I was told that it more of a mild case of the flu, and the general winter flu is much more sevre.  It is a concern if you are in the risk catergories, say the elderly, very young, pregnant or suffer from respitory conditions.

However I guess it is up to you, speak to your doctor get as much info as you can and then make an informed decision.

Hope have been helpful in some way and I'm sure some people will disagree with what I have wrote.

Wish you the best.
