Travelling with kids

I want to show my little girl the world, and the best place to start is by showing her our country! She's been to quite a few places around Queensland and in January we're going exploring in Victoria. We've just been up north, and in a couple of weeks we're heading out west.

Now, long-term, I'm looking at buying a Navara or similar at the end of 2011 and spending 6 weeks driving across the country over the Christmas break. just wondering if anyone has done this before, and if it's possible to see much in 6 weeks, or should we just pick a place and see what we can at that one place? When she gets older I'd like to take her overseas, perhaps to northern Europe, unsure as yet, working on our own backyard first :)

TIA

Re: Travelling with kids

being from WA you cant see everything in WA in 6 weeks. (believe me when u go to monkey mia you want to spend a week there cause it is so beautiful) + is is mamouth. LOL

I personally would do blocks and you may even need to go back as well. :)

I am atm saving to see a great friend next year. we will drive as I havent been around aust before either (lived in melbourne and sydney for about 6 months I think but I was like 4)

traveling with kids I would advice regular stops, and a DVD player.

good luck

Re: Travelling with kids

some would say you could see a bit in six weeks but I feel that if you really want her to experience it you need to spend more time at places. We looked into travelling permenantly all over australia with our kids

Re: Travelling with kids

Thanks, that's what I thought too.  Maybe spend 6 weeks in the Northern Territory, 6 weeks in South Australia, do it blocks like that.  I'd like to experience other places, and have the opportunity to purchase a kit home and build it on a property in South Australia.  A friend of mine bought a large block of land and said it's an option, she'd like it if we lived closer again.  She used to live around the corner from me up here and it was really good, we're both single with just one child and our kids are only 3 months apart, both girls, and both into the same types of things so it was brilliant.  We'd have each other's kids over for a play and both get time out.  So it's something I would look into, but not before seeing other places.  I've got a house here, and would rent it out fully furnished if we moved interstate.

Another option would be to travel around the country over a 2 year period and home school.  Not sure how that would go, though, as I'd have to try and pick up money and combining working, travelling and home schooling just doesn't sound like it would work unless someone else came with us and I could do bar work at nights (got my RSA and RGA) but it doesn't seem likely.

I have another question, but will post that seperately :)
