Dry hair.

My 2 1/2 yr old daughter has very dry hair. She has knots and her hair is not so curly but wavy. Her hair is not very long just below the shoulder length. No matter how much good quality baby shampoo and conditioner i use. I wash her hair once a week. so, what i do is massage her hair with olive oil and leave it and after 3 days i give it a wash. But my mother-in-law has a issue with that. She does not want to me to put olive oil or any kind of oil into her scalp. she thinks that it is going to recede her hair. She also said that by the time she will be 7 or 8 yrs- she will have no hair left and she says that i am ruining her hair growth.
So, i said that my Mom would always make sure that we apply oil for good hair growth. but, she said that it is okay in my country ( i come from a warm country ), but not okay in a cold country.
But, also when i googled i checked that olive oil is good for dry hair. After, i apply oil on my daughter`s scalp- it is even easy for me to brush her hair and her hair is even more softer. But according to her, the oil will leave her with no hair in future.
please help me as i am little bit confused.

Thank you.

Re: Dry hair.

I actually use to use baby oil on my kids hair, and to keep their hair tangle free I would braid it each night and take it out in the morning (COMB IT OUT FIRST BEFORE BRAIDING) then it is more managable for brushing.

Re: Dry hair.

olive oil is fine to use on your little ones hair, just a thought though have you thought about trying adult shampoo and conditiner on her hair as it might help more than the baby stuff. i was told by a hairdresser that from about 2 it is better for some kids to have adult shampoo and conditiner used on their hair.

I hope this helps

Re: Dry hair.

Hi.. my family are all from Dominica and we all have fizzy hair. But my hair is frizzy but really curly and it gets really dry and both me and my mum (who's hair is really dry) use olive oil. There are olive oil products in 'afro' hair shops but we just use actual olive oil and it works really well. my mum doesn't even use conditioner, just uses olive oil so i definately reccomend it. Hope i've helped. :)
