suntan lotion allergy

My boy is intollerent to dairy, eggs and kiwifruit and allergic to soaps and all nappy creams. He has been having more reactions at childcare and they think its the suntan lotion.

It is worse on his face but also spreads to his tummy and back. He rubbed his eye and looked like he was bashed. Luckily it went away before i got there to pick him up..

As anyone had allergies to lotions that spread quickly and not just on contact areas. he has had the ego brand at home and seems to be fine. Hopefully it is this so I can stop ananylising symptoms. No one cares or wants to listen cause "he's not that sick", "kids get rashes" probably teething.

I think i know his viral rashes compared to allergy ones and heat ones.

Re: suntan lotion allergy

Hi there,

My son has many allergies to food and also certin sunscreens. At childcare i just supply my own cream and they applies his before they apply the other childrens. When we were trying to work out what was doing it at childcare they were not putting sunscreen on certin parts of his body and he would always come out in hives starting on his face.

If you are concerned take his to the doctors and demand a referral to a allergy specialist, they are expensive to see but to us they have been a life saver.

Good Luck.

Juzzy xxxx

Re: suntan lotion allergy

my daughter a few weeks ago had sports carnival at school and we found out that she has an allergy to sun cream. not all of the just some. her poor little face swelled up and then she got a rash on her tummy and back and then her limbs went all dry and exma like.

I would tell the day care centre that they cant use their suncream on him and only your one that you know he is fine with.

Yep, a skin reaction can and often will spread beyond the area of contact.

There are too many types of sunscreen out there and they contain so much stuff it makes my head spin! When all else fails, turning to the old fashioned can be an advantage at times because it's so much more simple and usually still just as effective. Look into simple plain sun-protective zinc cream. Better to have a child looking like they're wearing body paint than having nasty skin reactions.

Re: suntan lotion allergy

My sister had reactions to things on her skin including suncream. She used suncream from the cancer council, i cant remember if it was an actually allergy type suncream (I can ask my mum if you would like, just minti mail me :) )  They also use to have a hard time finding it (cant remember why) they would always look for the cancer council at the Perth Royal Show to buy and stock up on it i think hehe.

Hope this helps :)
