stitches.

Charlie has just gotten 5 stitches in her finger from cutting it open on a mirror last saturday.
Basicly I want to know what do I do with them? do I stop her doing things she normally does? How do I keep them clean etc...
I have never had "open" stiches (always been disolvable and behind plaster)
I have to go back in a week to get them out and she is on antibiotics.
Also do you think she will need much panadol? her finger is still very swollen and sore.
Thanks.

Re: stitches.

Hi,

I guess you probably needed answers on this yesterday but i hope i can help today.

All i can suggest is cover them with a bandage/ medical covering during school time and when she is at home take it off to let the air get to the stitches. You can get them wet so she can still bath/shower. I will let you know that in a few days her finger is going to get super itchy don't stress about that because it is just the skin healing. I had 7 stitches in my hand once and the itchyness was almost unbearable.

I think only give her panadol if you think she is in some pain but i don't think you will need it past day 3., if you do i would take her back to the doctors just to get it checked.

Good Luck with it all

Love Juzzy xoxoxoxox

Re: stitches.

Thanks Juzzy.

She is feeling a bit better today but I had to lie with her till she went to sleep last night which is very out of character for her as she is very miss independant.

We wrapped her hand up this morning in clingfilm cause we were told no water for a few days but as a child and a grot they are I wanted to know if a small amount would be ok. thanks for clearing that up.

I totally understand the itchyness. I had my leg in plaster from hip to ankle when I was 14 from a knee op and OMG it was so bad. LOL I will have to watch her and keep her from scratching.

So far she hasnt asked for panadol which is good as I dont like giving it to them.

Thanks again Juzzy for your reply.

Liz
