17 mth going from soy formula to soy milk

my 17 month boy is on soy formula and eats like a 10 monther and is only just back on the charts for his weight.

I know your meant to start cows milk at 12 months but not sure when to start him on soy. Does soy milk have the right nutrients he needs. He still has baby cereal with weetbix and yougurt to add iron and nutrients in.

He has a 250ml for breaky and 120ml for lunch and tea. I am thinking of taking out the tea bottle and replace it with soy milk in a sippy cup.

He has a low immune system due to child care and gets sick more that the other kids at childcare his age. He's intollerent to dairy, eggs and kiwifruit. allergic to nappy creams and suntain lotion and soaps. He wont eat food with herbs and spices, even mild form at childcare. at 17 months he is 9.5 kilos which is just on the charts but he just started walking and lost a few hundred pounds since..

If he reacting to the yogurt, it's a dairy so it he is milk intolerant, he will react to dairy unless it's a soy yogurt.

As far as starting soy milk, I think you should be OK to go ahead and start it. Esp. since you are using a soy formula. Most kids transitino between the ages of 12 months to 15/18 month of age to a regula or soy milk.

We transitioned Jedd at 11 months but he is the exception to the rule as he was tube fed and we needed to do trials to "prove" he needed a really expensive formula with a higher caloric content. So, don't start that early unless you are under the supervision of a Dr, which we were.

As far as an immune system.....are you doing any type of vitamin?? We used to crush up a chewable vitamin for Jedd and mix it into foods we knew he would eat. Like, applesauce and yogrut. That way, his system got a boost. Can you try that??

Yes he is on soy yogurt. I want to start him on vitiams but  forget to ask dr when he's really sick, and then others are too busy and change the subject - yes i need a good dr !!! Thats why I came back to this site. The other thing is that I hear that other kids his age get blood tests for things and he has never had one. he had the allergy test but thats it. I'm afriad that he is not getting the right nurtients, although i feed him home cooked food etc but he has food refusal issues. But having big chubby cheeks doesn't help, they think he must be fine and are shocked when he gets on the scales !!  At his 18 month check I will ask more questions and hope they spend the time. I have had tests as i am really low in iron and have irritable bowel and eat like him but without the food allergies.

I think I will just head to the chemist tomorrow and see what they say to what kiddie vitiams might be suitable. Beacuse it can only help !!

Blood tests on kids under 2 *can* be unreliable. Some kids will test negative and then around age 5 get tested again per the daily syptoms and then test positive.

Most DR will opt to go by symptoms and if they see a lessening of symptoms then they know what ever they are doing is working.

Yes, I'd find a really good DR and go from there. Most of them will have you eliminate all the TOP allergens and get the excema under control. then slowly add one food at a time.

I suggest doing the scope on the O.R. because many times excema or food allergies can be being caused by an underlying medical issue.

I hope the DRs appt going well when you get one.
