Re: Laryngomalacia
I have had professional experience with this as a paed nurse. Laryngomalacia is where the area in the throat, around the larnynx is a bit floppy, when it should be rigid. There is also tracheomalacia where the trachea has the same problem. this floppyness causes noisy breathing which can sound wheezy or like stridor. The airway collapses to some extent during breathing in and out.
This is definately something for your paediatrician to diagnose. It will require an bronchoscopy (telescope down the throat to the lungs, under general anaesthetic). other conditions will also have to be ruled out.
The good news is that most children grow out of this condition as the airways become stronger.
