Well little dudes might pull every thing out again but you can never start too young!   Even very young kiddies hearing  you say..  putting it away so we can play with it again,  starts the idea that there is a reason for order!  A child can put things away, just make the clean up easy,  and it could also be part of the before bath or night time routine.  Just encourage even putting a bit away until the idea is there that he can do it all!  Best of luck.

Re: 2yo and cleaning up

Mr 3 has been doing it since he was about 1. Just because they can't speak very much, doesn't mean they don't understand instructions :) I would put toys in the basket, give him some to put some in the basket too, copying you and then make a big deal about it so he will repeat the action. At 1 and 2 I didn't expect him to put much away, just learn the concept of picking toys up. Now he is  3 1/2 and he knows if he tips all the toys out, he will be expected to pick them up. I know adults who have a hard time cleaning and putting their shit away haha but he puts rubbish in the bin, plate in the sink, washes his face and hands, puts things in their correct places and even puts his dirty clothes in the washing basket :)
