Change table tears

My daughter of 10 months all of a sudden cries everytime I put her on the change table to change her nappy. I try everything to distract her but nothing works until I pick her up. Any advice?

Does she starts standing up?
...or is she trying to turn around or sit up on the changing table?

When my big girl (now 3.75 years old) was around 10 month old, she started to stand up and showed the same behaviour like your daughter if I had tried to keep her down. After she have had learned to walk, she stopped it again. Now my little boy (13 month) starts the same. I think it's a phase, which ends.

To cope with it, I change/changed them standing up and using Pampers EasyUps instead of normal nappies. This is a little bit complicated, if it's really dirty, but in general it works fine.

Distraction

I have a changing area where there are Winnie the Pooh stikarounds one the wall. They are easily removeable and can be repositioned at a later stage. They are a way of taking the kids mind off what is up.

Phases
I'm a big fan of assuming this stuff is a stage. She's mobile now and probably frustrated with being imobile. After a while, she will come to know it's unavoidable. I am also a big proponent of talking to them. She may not understand what you are saying but the tone of your voice will probably be reassuring. Good luck!

Re: Phases
Thanks for your feedback. I also had another suggestion from friends. It could be the fact that she doesn't like lying on her back. I sing and makes funny faces and now i offer her something to hold...it seems to work.

Re: Phases
My son is 8 months old and has recently started doing the same thing. We have to find something interesting for him to hold or sing songs etc.. while we change the nappy as quick as possible. I hope it is just a phase as the dirty nappies can be quite messy!!
