my son is very active and he is always hurting himself. I have been noticeing brusis on his back lately and I odnt know if it is because he hits his back hard or if he is a easy bruiser. Should I be concerned about it?

normal...

My son is almost tw and always has a few bruises.  They are still at the age where they take tumbles and are not always steady on their feet.  Their skin is not as think as adults and their body size is smaller, so they are going to bruise easier.  I've always gotten bruises easily and I guess it runs in the family.

Yesterday, my son and I bumped heads (hard) and both ended with purple bruises, not even 5 minutes later, he ran into something and got a second one.  I think that at this age, they are fearless.  Think about how fast they bounce back after getting hurt.  It's not a big deal for them to bump something.

Check with your doctor, but don't worry yourself to death in the mean time.  You will most likely be told it's just a phase of the rough, tough little boys.  Good luck!

Worth looking into
Check his arms and legs for tiny red dots. If he has these (petechiæ, pronounced "puh TEE kee eye"), call your doctor immediately. They are a sign of low platelets, which are the blood cells that control clotting. Low platelets almost always mean either leukemia or ITP (a spleen disorder). If you don't see petechiae but you push on his skin and a bruise rises immediately, again, call your doctor ASAP. But in most cases, toddler bruises are normal and nothing to fear! And if you find that worries are plaguing you, just ask your pediatrician to run a CBC (complete blood count). It does mean a stick for your little boy (either a fingerstick, ouch, or a blood draw from the arm), but that's over in a minute—and your peace of mind is important.

i just wanted to also add for anyone out there that the easiest way to find out if these red dots are dangerous, is to squeeze them and if they don't disapeer like other spots do it means its internal bleeding thats what the spots are. i know this because my son had leukemia once and he got briuses and the pekei spots which meant he was bleeding internaly.

check just in case
probably nothing but i would check with your doctor just in case as our son some years back came up with a massive bruise on his face and we couldn't work out how he got it, in short we took him to the doctor and he had leuemia

Bruises

I have always bruised really easily, and my legs are constantly green and brown from bruises where the baby carrier knocks against them. I am never aware of having hurt myself, so I must just be a peach! My daughter falls over all the time, and barely gets a mark. I don't know whether age is a factor, but I think different people react differently. However, if you are at all concerned, I would mention it at your next health check / visit to a health professional. It may be a hint of something underlying and although it probably isn't, it would put your mind at rest to talk to someone knowledgable. It would also be something you could then pass on to anyone who has him in their care - "my son bruises easily but we have had it checked and he is fine".

I do agree that the stage where they start running and charging around is inevitably going to come with bumps and bruises - I saw a boy today running about, fall over and bang his head and then get up and do the exact same thing all over again! It's all in the process of learning to control their bodies.

hi

My daughter is 2 1/2 and never stops moving . I find new bruises on her almost every day I think bruises are a normal part of learning walk , run , jump , and whatever crazy thing they decide to try to do today.
