Check his arms and legs for tiny red dots. If he has these (petechiæ, pronounced "puh TEE kee eye"), call your doctor immediately. They are a sign of low platelets, which are the blood cells that control clotting. Low platelets almost always mean either leukemia or ITP (a spleen disorder).
If you don't see petechiae but you push on his skin and a bruise rises immediately, again, call your doctor ASAP.
But in most cases, toddler bruises are normal and nothing to fear! And if you find that worries are plaguing you, just ask your pediatrician to run a CBC (complete blood count). It does mean a stick for your little boy (either a fingerstick, ouch, or a blood draw from the arm), but that's over in a minute—and your peace of mind is important.
