pnd and anxiety a little more info

HI*

just a quick up date, it seams that after taking the meds I mentioned earleirer for sever months or perhaps years ( ever one is diffrent) that you become useto the meds and have to change, I am now taking 2 new meds,  and this, again, depending on symtoms may be a better choice of meds, I do not suffer from depreshion, and my heart goes out to you, I can not immagion what its like, or even try to pretend to know, but I do know that every day for many people is an up hill battle, but getting to the top every day makes it all worth while.
Talk to your doctor about every thing and make sure he/she knows how you are feeling, and apsolutley make it known, and demand advice, counsling or change of meds,  put the power of self back in your hands.**
Many blessings

pnd and anxiety
havent we all suffered from this.it a terrible little thing, i tried medication and it made me hallucinate which wasnt helping at all.i decided to block out the bad and bring in some noise. i played music loudly and danced, i would go into the bathroom splash my face with a little water and count to myself,i would sit on the lounge and take in a deep breath and on the exhale i would sa the word "relax" to myself it really really worked. i still do it. it also helped with my storm phobia and my anxiety attacks that happen for everything from confrontation to job interveiws.mel

depression
hi, i can relate to ur problem. ive had simular problems. one of my links to depression was suprisingly a food allergy. it took me 8 years to find out i am wheat intolerent. a symptom of this is depression. i suggest u go to a naturopath and asked for allergy testing. to rule out food. naturopaths can also help with some natural remedies. another suggestion is to see a professional aromatherapist. natural oils can help, to burn. each oil does something differnt. apsyciatrist can help with u to deal with depression. and help u not to have relapses. as when u have a bout of depression, u are at a likely risk of this reacurring. i can suggest a form of meditation and finding a good church to attend. i myself are trying to get to the bottom of depression from every angle i can think of. I see a counsellor, psyciatrist and attend church regulary. as i am a christian i also see some one to help the spiritual side, where i receive prayer regulary. a depression support group may also help, but not on its own.

Hi Bestmum06

I have had anxiety disorder for over a year, the cause to me was post traumatic stress, I do take meds, but because I don’t want to be on them for ever I have researched for the pat 6 months natural and normal ways to help cope with this, I have just read a book called  The Anxiety & Phobia Workbook by Edmund J. Bourne PH.D, it covers a wide verity of causes and how to cope with each one and how to identify ware the problem may come from, I have also spend almost 2 years in counseling and I must say, this book has helped me to understand this, what I call an affliction.
some final words from what I have been through with my sever anxiety attacks, it is the most terrifying feeling in the world, and its scary, it took me a long time feel safe enough to leave my house because I was afraid of passing out in a public place, or hitting my head.,.ect.,.ect,
I live in Canada and the cold in the winter affects me and  the heat, but mostly the humidity, this is because of the meds.
I have learned that I have inherited this condition from my fathers side of the family, because I don’t get freaked out by things, I don’t panic in situations, I’am a cool, calm and level headed person. SO in short with me, I will always have to be on meds, but for others, like you, there is a large chance you can over come this, by doing what this book recommends, I have used them every day in meditation, it to help me let go of the days stress and running around, and its okay to blow off some steam some times too as this, as I have read can lead to high blood pressure if you don’t.
I highly recommended this book, and I believe it will help you.
One more note before I go, I read about a woman who suffered from anxiety attacks for 22 years, after she began to use theses easy simple breathing exercises in this book, they became few and far between, and now, she doesn’t suffer from them at all, so this even gives me hop of one day never having to use meds. I would also like to mention, if your doc feels the needs to put you on meds, please DO NOT try Zoloft, it does make you like a zombie, tired all the time, no get up and go, it also effects your memory, I can only remember bits and peaces from the 7 months I took it, but it may work fine for you,
I hope this letter has helped you, and this is a more personal subject for me, because I’ am suppose to be the strong one. I also have a friend who may know of a natural herb or supplements that may help, when I speak to her aging I will ask her...

Please keep you chin up, and know and believe in your mind and heart you WILL get through this, be strong you can do it!!
Good luck and many blessings.

Thyroid
Have you asked your doctor how your thyroid is doing? Could be your hormones are out of whack, even if they are still within the normal range they could be at the low end. There are some natural products out there but your doctor would know

dong quai
I use a herb called dong quai.  It helps with nervous tension, menstrual pain, anxiety and the like.  I have used it for several months.  I think the key is to also ensure that the root of the problem is addressed.  I find the dong quai helps you to remain a little more settled when faced with extra strain and your mind is clear to handle it.  Not just, "Oh well, never mind....all is well when the fairies are running around my head"  Get my point?

CBT is all about the way you think and unlike other therapys it doesn't dwell on the pass it helps with the here and now, its kind of like reorganising your thought process, I have no medical training so I can't explain how it works in its full attirity but I'm sure your doctor would be able to explain more.

drugs & therapy

I'm sure you know this, but I just want to mention that prescription drugs for depression is a "hit" or "miss". Doctors often have to keep switching drugs in order to find that works best for an individual.

Also, it is important to seek some counseling as well. The combination of drugs and therapy together has been proven to be the most effective way of combating depression and decrease the risk of recurrence.

Best of luck.
