Is it worth buying the bassinette option for a stroller?

I have noticed that many strollers that claim to be suitable for newborns also have the option of a bassinette for the first few months. They usually cost an extra $150 or so. Are they worth it?

bassinette
most strollers  today can be made to lie flat and this allows the child to sleep in comfort.  the only reason to buy the bassinette feature is to be able to lift the child out of the stroller without waking the child.  i found that my grandson slept just as well if we just left him in the stroller and simply placed it beside us when we went out

Not really...
Strollers are usually universally made and most of them allow for the infant carseat to pop on the front so that the baby faces you instead of away from you. If that is what you want the bassinet for, then I would just buy a regular stroller. $150 is a lot of money for something that you might only use a few times for the first few weeks!

worth it?
From my experience, no...it was to big and cumbersome. Not practical. I only used the bassinette in the first week, when I should have borrowed or hired. I got sucked into buying a package (mountain buggy/bassinette etc) for $400+ Aussie dollars I ended up only using the mountain buggy (hardly) and ended up buying an additional capsule that connects onto any pram instead (again this too was very heavy), but allowed baby to sleep and myself go out without having to transfer baby out of the car capsule (so it was a small price to pay for establishing a good uninterrupted sleep routine (and I could still go out and about). Generally, Newborns sleep really well in any pram that reclines right back, as well as a also having the option of reclining up into other higher positions, if they are susceptible to getting wind.

You can also get little snuggle bags that keep them safe and warm whilst in the pram, which I will do second time round. Overall, I spent WAY too much money buying too many add ons, that for me I didn't use. I would invest in one pram that grows with your baby from newborn up and one newborn capsule that clips onto any pram and can be reclined as well until baby needs to go into an upright carseat.

Hope this helps...(also do a search for pram, capsule you will find lots of articles, ;0)

Thanks for that. Despite all my research online and at baby shops I didn't know that you could get capsules that go on any pram. Can you give me a name for the capsule?
