morning sickness

Hey all. I am about 10 weeks pregnant and having the most violent morning sickness of all my pregancies. Everything I eat tastes like chalk or paste and when I try to drink water I can taste all the chemicals and stuff in it. I am trying to hide the taste with really really weak cordial but I am concious of sugar intake. At this point I am eating small but regular meals of easy to digest foods and drinking the usual amount of water. I am off tea coffee and all soft drinks. I am finding it reaally hard coz Im used to just sipping water from my water bottle all day and usually have about 2.5 litres. Any ideas out there?

hi im 10 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child and have very severe morning sickness. i didnt really have morning sickness with my 1st pregnancy. since ive been about 6 weeks ive been throwing up everything, i cant keep anything down. ive fainted 3 times and my iron level is very very low and i cant even keep iron tablets down. my doctor has just prescribed me maxlon, but so far it hasnt worked either. actually the only thing i can keep down is nuggets from mcdonolds. just looking at a glass of water makes me sick. lol. the chemists gave me ginger morning sickness tablets, but that just seemed to make it worse. but she did say they do work for her so you could try them.

When i was pregnant i had a prob with throwing up all through the pregnancy (week 7 i kept nothing down but this). My doc advised me that ice blocks are obsorbed into the system as quick as they are eaten. If your worried about sugar maybe try a natural iceblock - i likes raspberry splits as this was the only way for me to get any kind of calcium, and the red cordial (?) outside gave me an energy boost.. It also soothes the throat after vomiting. For most this does go away. For everyone there is a beautiful baby at the end. Hope this helps.

Hi congrats, and I have just found out that I am 6 wks now, I agree with the other girl that the only thing calming my belly down is ginger nuts (although not as fussed on the ginger bread). I'm no were as bad as you though, I only heeve but at the slightest things, I can't cook, can't feed her her dinners. Also the water doesn't seem to want to go down either, its hard taking the folic acid too.Well hopefully yours settles down now that your passing 12 weeks and good luck   Keep smiling

alternatively you can see your doctor and he might be able to give  you something
i know there is a antinausea drug out there and i think it is called maxalon, must be prescribed by a doctor but i think dont quote me on this it is safe to take whilst pregnant

my doctor prescribed maxalon for me. I spent over a month in bed feeling and being sick. On days I had to do something I took a maxalon to get it done, but otherwise I just stayed in bed with my bucket. Luckily things started looking up for me from about 12 weeks on.

oh boy... hugs vikki! i don't envy you.

i had violent morning sickness with both kids - all day, every day - the whole nine months with DS14, and about 6 months with DD.

i found it was easier to just go with the vomiting, because afterwards i felt marginally better, and had a minor window of feeling slightly human. i got to a point when i was pregnant with DS14, where i would divide my dinner in half, eat half of it, go vomit, and then could manage the rest of my dinner. it was like clockwork - bizarre.

you could try drinking peppermint tea, as it's great to help with nausea. steer clear of the tea & coffee...
if you speak to your doctor, they may recommend something to take for the short term.

my mum's old wive's trick was to make sure you have a piece of dry toast (with a scraping of vegemite) before your feet hit the ground in the morning. only worked sometimes for me LOL....

the only other thing i found that helped was to eat lots of salads and fruit - when i could keep things down. it seems to help a fair bit, much better than processed junk.

hope that helps a little x

I was sick like that with my first, the only thing I could stomach was a certain bottled water anything else tasted disgusting and cereal, any cereal it didn't matter.  I was able to eat McDonalds cheeseburgers (hmmm very healthy) for about 4 months of the pregnancy but then one came up and that was it.  To help with the nausea I drank home made ginger tea it did wonders but still didn't help with the food intake.  At about 7 months I had cravings for curries and thats all I ate.  So apart from the vitamins I was taking that was all I was able to put into my body anything else just came straight up.   My little man came out very healthy and has grown into a big healthy boy.  So unless your dr is worried dont you, stress would do more harm then anything else.   If you can try the Ginger tea it really does help

You poor thing.  I was there.  In fact, I am 6 months pregnant and still haven't been able to get my taste for water back.  Like you I used to drink lots and lots of water.  Thanks to morning sickness and heartburn, I just can't do it.  What I could keep down was watered-down sports drinks such as lemon-lime gatorade and now I have been able to drink naturally decaffinated iced tea.  The gatorade trick is something I read online and it really worked for me.  With the drink being watered-down you don't have to worry about the sugar.  Hope this helps you a little.  Good luck.

As long as you're able to keep something down I'm not sure there is much that can be done. Just keep sipping and nibbling and wait for it to pass. I feel your pain. With my second daughter I had severe morning-noon-and-night sickness. Except for me as soon as a drop of anything, even water hit my tongue I was throwing up no matter what time of day it was and we don't even want to talk smells, oh no. I had to lock myself in the bedroom whenever my husband would cook dinner for him and my daughter so I wouldn't get a whiff of it because it'd send me into dry heaves. This went on for over half the pregnancy. And even then all that could be done was IV hydration and waiting it out.

Good thing the baby is all worth it in the end, eh?
