I started my son on solids at around 5 months , he is now just over 6 months and i am starting to worry that i may be giving him too much solid food. How much is the norm? I understand that it depends on the child but i don't want him to drink less breastmilk.
My other problem is that i feed him to sleep and worry that he may be falling asleep without having had his fill of milk.
Is there anyone experiencing the same problem?

At 6 months, my son was eating 1 - 1/2 small jar of gerber baby food, split 2x. One around 10ish and the 2nd time around 3ish. These feeding sessions are in between breastfeedings, instead of replacing a breastfeeding. When my son didn't nurse as well as he used to, I backed out some on the solids. He didn't have 3 solid meals a day until he was 9 months old.
If you are worried that your child is not getting enough milk, try and give him the milk first and then the solid.
Hi, my baby is now 9 months and I started to feed her solids around the same time as you and was also worried that i was feeding to much. I fed her as much as she would eat and it didn't effect my milk supply or put her off of milk because she was full. This could've been because I would feed her solids between breastfeeds as she fed every 4-5 hours so I would feed her solids about 2 hours after feeding and still continue the same pattern now with her having 3 meals per day now and her doctors couldn't be more happy with her health and weight. Also if you haven't tried already when your baby falls asleep while feeding is try changing his/her nappy between boobs or as he/she is dozing off. I also had this problem as soon as my daughter was born, you could also try a cool flannel on his/her feet or face as that tends to wake them up but i wouldn't worry about your baby missing out on milk as a hungry baby wouldn't fall asleep in the first place and would soon wake again anyway if didn't get enough. Hope I could help
by six months i started 3 solids a day, and 3 milk bottles a day. I give him baby's juice if he's thristy. Genreally when starting solids it fullfils their little tummy, my little man goes down after dinner without a milk bottle. so when he eats more i will reduce hi bottles to two aday, that's my theory.
My daughter is 6 months old and i've been feeding her 3 meals a day (morning, noon, and before bed) for over a month now. I started just by giving her veggies with cereals before bed, then I added a morning meal of fruits and cereals mixed together. Now she has just plain veggies at noon time. I find that she stoped being so fussy during the day, and she sleeps so much better at night.
Another suggestion I have is that you try not to feed your little one to sleep. You wouldn't believe what a blessing it is when your baby realizes that they can go to sleep without having a nipple in their mouth!
Hi and thanks for your advice, regarding getting baby to sleep, what method have you tried? I don't want to do the controlled crying thing but would appreciate any other suggestions.
I started by letting Lily nurse, but then instead of putting her to bed asleep, I woke her a bit and read a story to her and let her fall asleep that way. After about a week of that, I kept her awake during the story, and then put her in bed awake and patted her or rubbed her til she went to sleep that way. It was a little bit frusterating at first, having to pat her to sleep for 15 mins, but eventually it decreased and she'd cuddle in and sleep as soon as i put her to bed.
He should be on at least 3 meals a day by now. How much he has depends on him. Let the baby guide you. If he wants the food, give it to him. You will also find a difference in how much a baby/child eats when they are going through a growth spurt. Don't worry about giving him too much unless he is overweight.
When feeding him his milk, if he falls asleep he is obviously content so do not worry. If you really want him to have more milk give him more when he wakes. Again, let him guide you as to what he does and doesn't want.
Thanks so much for your advice, i already tried feeding him once he woke and found that this helps. When you mention 3 meals a day, do you mean lunch and dinner as composed of vegetable and fruit or one or the other?
