Need advice NOW! Anyone have children with seizures?
My daughter has been doing this really weird head bob thing, where it looks like she spaces out and her head bobs around violently. She only does it very rarely, and I thought that she was maybe just trying out a new movement that she had discovered. I went to my dr today, as my daughter has a chest cold (no fever) and while i was waiting to see her, Lily did her head bob thing maybe a dozen times, each time it was more intense. While i was in with the doctor, Lily did it a bunch more times, and the dr said that it didn't look normal and that i had a right to be concerened, and she sent us straight to emerg. She even offered me an ambulance, but as the hospital is only a block away, i drove. She thought that maybe she had undiagnosed juvanile diabetes as it runs in my family, and she sent a request for a whole slew of tests. When i was there, the dr that saw us only preformed a blood sugar test, which was normal. He saw lily do her head thing, but it was only very slight, like if you hadn't seen the violent ones, you probably wouldn't have noticed it. Then he pretty much said i was crazy, that she was normal, and to go home. He wouldn't even bother to do the tests that my dr had requested! I am going back tomorrow to get them done, but right now i'm just going out of my head!

Need advice NOW! Anyone have children with seizures?
Be PERSISTANT! Dont let anyone blow you off! Demand tests! Seizures can be deadly. My husbands grandmother died from a seizure when she was in her 30's. There are so many degrees of seizures, peti and grand. I dont know a whole lot, my best friend growing up had the grand mal (SP) seizures, she would kind of zone out, stare off into space and fall down, then her body would jerk spasmaticly. Then other times she would just loose her train of thought and kind of go into a trance. Get help, they can do a CT scan, that is how they found hers. I thought my son may have been having them when he was a baby he would jerk his head like saying no back and forth very fast, his dr said he thought it was just his body couldnt keep up with his mind, and that he would grow out of it, but the dr did a CT anyhow, just to be safe. My son did outgrow it, but I would go back and insist on a test, it is non envasive, no needles, no pain. Good Luck. Dont ever let anyone ask you either "are you a first time mom" , that is what several drs say ,and if you say yes then they say you are overreacting. It use to make me CRAZY. I would answer is this your first day on the job? LOL. Keep me posted on your little one.

Need advice NOW! Anyone have children with seizures?
Hi
While I don't have any children with seizures myself I have worked with children who had seizures and my husband had a severe seizure condition until his brain surgery last year.
I wrote an advice article Dealing with epilepsy which may give you some information - at the bottom of the article you will find links to both the Australian and American Epilepsy Foundations. They are both good sources of information.
The following link is for a page from the Australian Epilepsy Association on types of seizures.
I am not sure if your child's condition is a form of epilepsy but you may get some information on the different types of seizures.
I agree with Jess - go back to the doctor that took things seriously and get those extra tests. Good luck, I hope you find the answers you need soon. Please keep us posted.
