Not taking bottle at all

My six month old boy has always been breastfed and I am trying to get him to start drinking from the bottle , whether it be water or milk. I had tried a while back but gave up seeing as I am with him all the time I figured why bother having to pump out milk and then feed it to him. I now realise that I may have to go back to work and he will need to drink from a bottle. He sees it as a toy and just shakes it til' it soaks him.. please help me all you experienced mums out there! I know i should be scolded for not doing this sooner!

An alternative to the bottle is a sippy cup or transition to sippy. There is available in woolies, kmart, big w, a tommee tippee cup/bottle called a nuby. It is very similar to a bottle but the teat is square. When turned upsidedown it does not leak and is a good transition to bottle. I use it for my son for water night feeds and milk. Hope this helps.

Hi, we didn't have trouble at all moving our kids to a bottle. For the first few feeds my husband fed them say that they wouldn't smell me when they fed. It made it a lot easier for us by starting that way. Give it a try, cant hurt. And also, there are lots of different teats out there. There is one that i know of that is shaped more like your nipple to help babies adjust to a bottle. You can go to your chemist to buy that one, just ask about it at your chemist. Good Luck. I hope this helps.

no need to scold you at all!!  It does just take time. my first never had a bottle, breast to cup, my second had a bottle for water only, it did take time, try lots of different teets and as allready said get someone else to feed him, he wont starve, he will give in and learn what a bottle is, he just knows mummys boobs are better. mabey you could even try a non spill cup and some baby juice so its REALLY yummy for the first time. good luck, he'll be drinking from a cup/bottle before you know it.

I feel your pain my friend! My son was 3 months old and I got the call back to work. Basically I got my husband to feed my bub coz with me J just smelled the milk on me and refused the bottled. As well as that we prolonged his feed an extra half hour so he was extra hungry. I sat there so upset while my son took the bottle - it was very emotional for me - but necessary. It took a few trys but patience and time it worked.
