Has anyone tried that 'baby talking' stuff from the tv the other night

I watched that show on TV the other night about a lady called Priscilla Dunstan who has a theory on newborn babies talking with their cries. She has recently been on Oprah with it.
The basic cries/ words were
neh- hunger
owh- tiredness
e- wanting to be picked up
eh- needing burping
eairh- lower wind pain
heh - discomfort eg temperature, wet nappy or uncomfortable clothes.

She had a physiological explanation for why each sound was associated with that thing eg the neh sound was a bit like sucking.

Has anyone tried it? Has anyone got the DVD? What do people think of it?

UNfortunately, I didn't see it, however a friend of mine rang me as she was so excited! She has tried it with her little fella who is 2 months old and says that it is SPOT ON! She said instead of rushing in straight away, she listns for the sounds in amongst the crying and responds appropriately to the cue and  it has worked atreat each time! She said it saves having to go through the check the nappy, are you hungry, do you need a burp, do you just need a cuddle checklist each time. He settles quickly and she thinks it's just amazing!

I saw it, everyone is always a sceptic when it comes to something like this, my husband kept on saying oh I remember that sound oh and that one, of course it would make the parent feel empowered but if you can have that extra little tool to understanding what it is that is upsetting your baby how wonderful for you and bubs.  I wish I had seen it when my kids were little.  She has done the research, she has had parents from around the world try it out and it has worked.  I nearly fell over but my dad said if he had kids now he would by the video.... I thought it was great and made so much sense.

I saw it and thought it was interesting, I would like to see some proper research in it. Like signing (which is another sudden miracle) I wonder if it has more to do with watching and observing so you get to know your child better or possibly the power came from the building confidence in the mother, a confident mother would be reassuring to the baby ....the touch, feel etc being firmer so the baby is less stressed. I am not dismissing the merit of her work, I simply want to know more, having had four children I didnt have a lot of the problems she spoke of, but I did have a reflux baby and essentially I was told while he was putting on weight and sleeping he was fine, we had to elevate his cot and keep him upright for an hour after a feed but apart from using Infacol which assisted with wind removal in my kids they were fairly settled. Then again I was a dreadful mother who had her kids in a routine that often meant I had to wake them for feeds...

not sure the 'signing' is a sudden miracle. There is research out there that shows that babies of deaf parents who sign begin to 'sign' at an earlier age than babies of speaking parents begin to speak. The babies can control their hands better than their mouths and breathing for speech at an earlier age.
As a speech pathologist I often encouraged parents to sign (always with speech) for children that were having difficulty picking up language. Given my experiences and reading in the area I fully intend to sign with my baby.

My neice has been "signing" "TA" since she was about 8months.  It was so cute!  She puts her little hand to her face.  She also tells you "wapa" which is "beatiful" in spanish.  She gently strokes your face to tell you your beautiful.  I am going to try the signing with my baby.  I would love to communicate with him as soon as I can.

As for the baby whisperer.  Im sure it has worked for other mothers but since watching it I have tried really hard to listen to my babies noises and he, simply, doesnt make the noises she talks about.  My first instinct was the confidence thing too.  But even if thats the way it works, by empowering the mother and making her more confident then atleast thats something!
