Hi there,

Yes I think your little has reflux. You really need to take hime to see your dr a get a referral to see a paediatrician.

My liitle angel would scream for hours after a feed and was contantly having to wear bibs. She was feeding all over the place and was very upset. I was not listened to by my GP until she stopped breathing and my hubby had to preform CPR.

She was put on Zantac to begin with but it wasn't strong enough and is now on Losec. WE keep her elevated when she is sleeping and also for 25mins after a feed.

AS FOR THE RUNNY NOSE, its part of the reflux. My angel sounds like she is all blocked and makes some really weird sounds out of her nose.

Please see your GP ASAP and let us know how you go. If you need and help on how to manage it please feel free to email me as I know how hard it can be.

Hi,

My daughter was diagnosed with reflux and was put on Zantac Syrup at 6 weeks.  She used to get very irritable and constantly cried, she was always tired during the day but would never sleep until night time rolled around where she just couldn't stay awake any longer.  She would want to eat constantly as well, which was very draining for me as I was breast feeding. She would arch her back a lot as well. The Zantac has really helped, we were told recently that she may keep needing it until she's nearly 2.  She still vomits but nowhere near as much and rarely gets pains.  The Australian Breastfeeding Association website has some info on reflux if you think your baby has it.   I recommend a trip to the doctor if you can't get it under control.

Until around 5 months of age we put two pillows under the top end of the mattress to raise her head.  At around 5 months she discovered how to roll and we would find her horizontal in the bed so it ws a waste of time trying to prop her up any longer. We gradually withdrew the pillows and she now sleeps flat.  She's 7 months now and she still has problems after each meal whether  breast, bottle or solids.  I never give her a big feed less than half an hour before bed and always keep her upright for at least 10 mins after a feed.  I do occaisionally put her straight to bed if it's in the middle of the night.

When I feed her (Breast or Bottle) I always keep her head slightly elevated and find a pillow under my arm really helps.  I burp her at regular intervals, in the early days it was every 5 mins approx, now it's after each breast.  She used to scream in complaint but I found that if I persevered through the crying she would eventually give a big burp and be happy to continue eating. The worst thing you can do is keep feeding.  Babies with reflux will want to feed a lot as it's the only thing they know to fix a pain, it doesn't, it makes it worse.  I found that when she was young I could confuse her with a dummy.  Doesn't work now, she's happy to burp now, cause burp means more food.

As to the nose issue, check for family history or allergies, my hubby suffers bad heyfever so I dust her room every other day.  I do have a device that someone gave us which looks like an oversized eye dropper, a nasal decongester, haven't had the need to use it so not sure how well they work.

Hope I've been able to help.

You really should consult your doctors about these problems .... However ... My thoughts : Reflux type issues ... those types of difficulties could be helped by elevating the head of the bed ... if in a crib put a pillow UNDER the mattress at the head of the bed to elevate baby's chest and head. When feeding baby, keep him elevated as well. Those suggestions might also help with the drainage from the stuffy nose .... Constant spitting up could also be due to your formula and/or breastmilk not agreeing with baby's tummy .... You could try different formulas or change your own diet if breast feeding ... As far as the stuffy nose ... have you tried a humidifier for baby's room? Is there mold in your home ... pets ? ...

Well this comment is all over the place, not specific and not as informative as I would like ... But your concerns should be addressed to your physician because as my scattered thoughts have shown there could be many reasons for each of the conditions .... Ask and answer specific questions concerning your specific situation and I am sure you will be able to cure these problems with a few adjustments ...

My specific example : when my boy was small he always spit up dry formula (that you mix with water) ... so for the longest time we had to use the liquid ready-to-use formula .... was it the water we used to mix it with ? Not sure .... but we always used the no mix ready to use formula that worked very well ...

Best of luck solving these issues ! I am sure that it will only take a few adjustments to help make your baby more comfortable !

I agree. My son had reflux and elevating works wonders seeing a doctor to be sure or even your baby's childhood nurse is always the best thing with this type of thing.
