my son has this thing where he puts his hands in his dirty nappy when im changing him, i cant stop him coz im holding his legs up with one hand and trying to wipe with the other!!!, i have tried so much and its getting me angry and upset when he manages to get poo on his hands.
please help with any suggestions you may have, I'm willing to try anything
my daughter is exaclty the same i give her the clean nappy to play with while i wipe her down and because she thinks it is something she "shouldn't have she loves it" then when shes all clean i put the new one on her, hope this helps (even his fav toy just something to keep him distracted)
forgot to mention try singing or talking making funny noises to it is a great distraction, you may feel a bit silly but isn't that what mummies are for lol
lol i know what you mean my son was the same, so I would hold his hands and feet with one hand and wipe with the other another thing that worked for me was i would let him hold the powder or a toy he realy liked and that way i could do it with no fuss.
i know its more of an issue of distraction and i try that all the time, maybe if i use something he would be more interested in and say 'make it his changing time toy?' that might help, i just think he gets bored very quickly with the things i offer him.
I know what that is like!
As my kids have gotten older I have found the easiest way, since distraction doesn't always work, is just to chuck em in the shower! Once they can hold onto the side of the bath they can stand. That way I also know they are clean after each change. My bub loves it!!!
hi there i find with my daughter the only way to change her nappy these days is to do it while she's under her playgym. that way she's got things to look at and pull on and it keeps her occupied. maybe you could try that.
vaugely. ...
Apart from giving them something to occupy their hands .... I seem to remember doing a weird contortion thing where i changed their nappy back to front.
If i remember rightly i put one of my legs over them (obviously NOT sitting or leaning on them- but so the childs hands were almost behind me (behind my leg) and I was sort of crouched to one side) and did it all half backwards. Its a bit tricky and people used to laugh but I did have to resort to it now and again...esp with my boys. They were probably a bit older though- I think that was to stop the wild toddler run away thing.
When they were younger- yep fill their hands! Id toss a clean nappy at mine sometimes- this seemed to be interesting for a moment
HI CHanny. Kobe did the same thing! i ended up giving him a container to play with, one where he can pull the lid off and put back on! I know how frustrating it can be, just try to take a deep breath. after all, they are kids, and kids will do anything to get dirty!!!
when i change my sons nappy i get him to help by holding the baby powder so we can put that on togerther.his hands are busy with that and you are free to clean him up.
My son also started to do this, what I did was put his wet ones in a lunch box and everytime I change him he know's he gets the lid to play with, with his other hand put a biscuit / bottle in it.
You poor thing, I sympathise yes we only have two hands so we have to be clever.... have you tried distracting your son with a toy or bottle something so he focused on that rather than what your doing. It may help, also if the stools are very loose you may consider adding some fibre, I know it sounds strange but adding fibre adds bulk to the stool making it firmer.
