this isn't natural Sorry But it works for me and has for years. I used to get extremely bad pains from my bottom all the way up my back after having the kids and never Knew why till I saw My doctor. He concluded (by ultrasound) that it only occured when I ovulated and lasted the entire period cycle, I couldn't walk without discomfort or even sit down as the pain was like someone shoving a huge object up my bottom and into my spine, this coupled with tummy cramps was unbearable. He recommended I go back onto Depo injections (contraceptive) because I did not get the cramps and pains while I was on it. I have also found that this helps with PMS moodiness too another great thing about the injections is you DON'T GET a PERIOD.

i have the same problem and working in natural health have found the best remedy is chaste tree or botanic name vitex agnus cactus,

it has been used for centuries to balance hormones and both my 13 year old and i take it. at first i took it every day for 2 months now we only take it from day 14 to day 28 of cycle, it is like a miracle herb! on the odd occasion we forget it we really notice the difference! and aside form hormone balance it has had an amazing effect on menstrual acne and length of periods and cramping!

go to your healthfood store or naturopath and enquire about it, i highly recommend it!

First it is very common for women living in the same house to get their periods at the same time and they do not have to be related - When I first started out to become indepentant I lived in a shared house with 4 other women and by the time I left we all had our periods within a couple of days of each other (Nightmare!)
I used to suffer awful PMS and would bleed very heavily so i went to the doctors who suggested that I took B6 (Its a vitamin I think, you can get it at the chemist and health food stores) this really helped then I went on the pill to help ease my bleeding this also helped. I agree with evening primrose which is also good during "the change".
As for your hubby I'm afraid he may just have to put up with it, maybe you could set him up a special room to retreat too when you are all at your worst, with a T.V in, a comfy chair and a mini fridge of beer (but only during that time).
Hope some of this helps.
Tink x

I was on the pill, yes the pill could be making you go troppo. So all those years of thinking I was just having PMS it was taking the contraceptive pill that was doing it.Any way it's just a suggestion as to why you could be moody every month.

Ooooh I remember those days. Hubby looked at me sideways and I would either wanna smack him, or burst into tears. Then I got de-sexed (my sons discription not mine) and menopause hit - same thing different name *sigh*

All the girls of the house should keep a diary of their time of month - just stick a red star on the calander when that time of month hits, and add one for each day it continues.  This will give you a better idea of your period timetable, so you can plan ahead and avoid surprises.

For the week before - cut down on caffeine, alchohol and other stimulants. Make sure you drink plenty of water to assist in flushing your system. Also take regular exercise and eat plenty of unrefined foods, and fresh fruits and vegetables.

Evening Primrose Oil helps and I had some success with chasteberry extracts as well. Talk to your local health food store.

If you or your daughters have erratic cycles, or pain above 4 on the pain scale, get yourselves checked by a doctor to rule out any medical problems. I thought all women went through severe, doubled over, crying pain during their periods and it wasnt till I was about 30 that I realised a lot of women just breezed through them.

Pamprin and Midol both have PMS formulas that may help with this. I've also heard that excercising and avoiding excessive caffeine when that time of the month comes around can help you be less anxious and take the tension around the house down a few notches.

burning oils shouldnt be a problem. You only need to use a tealight candle in the burner, these dont let of too much smoke, as for the oil it only realises a small about of smell over time. My son is athsmatic too, and i have had no troubles with it! as long as you put it up on a bench where little hands cant get to it, you should be fine!

hi there. i get a bit the same. my hubby just stays away when i get the monthlies. I use naprogesic. its designed to ease the pain and relax the muscles. i find it helps calm me down too. you can get it from the chemist over the counter. i think its about $10 for a box of 30tabs? something like that. just ask your chemist, as for your daughter, she may be able to take a half dose. best to ask the chemist or doctor. as for something natural, Primrose oil tablets are very good. also try using oils in a burner. if you do a google search you can find out what oils are relaxing and calm the nerves. I use Lavender oil and ( it might sound silly) i meditate ( well sort of) i call it my quiet time. i go into my room, close the door ( usually when my son is asleep) put the oil burner on and some quiet music ( Enya is my fave for this) and just "chill out" for 10-15mins. This is also something you and your daughter can do together!

cant hurt to give it a go right? best of luck to both of you

Jade
