I'm starting my daughter too with potty training.  I first bought the pull up sand called them underware, then I started to take her to the potty every so often or asked her if she needed to go.  Once she was going on comand.  She makes her self go now when she goes on the potty, I started putting on real underware.  She does not like the wet feeling and after half the day she was telling me that she had to go.  Just introduce each step and wait until she catches on them move to the next.  Make sure you do praise her and if she makes an accident, don'e get upset, just say it's ok and tell her you'll try again.

Everyone has ideas on how to start it! LOL! All I can say is - do it in summer, and be prepared to hang around the house for a couple of days. I used jelly babies - one for a wee, two for a pooh. And HEAPS of congratulations. He insisted on numerous occasions that we call relatives interstate to deliver the fabulous news that he had just done a pooh. It worked. And the lollies were, after a few days, just cut back - "forgoten about", "ran out - must run to supermarket to buy more - soon" etc. until the congrats were enough. Oh - and one other trick that worked - I used to count (and sometimes still do) for poohs. Initially I would sit and sing to him while he sat on the loo and then I decided that counting would give him a bit of a rush along. So I would count, and he would pooh. Fabulous really. Good luck!!!

We just started and we are trying the "asking every 15 minutes" routine.  It is exhausting, but it seems to be working.  Lots of praise and affirmation helps too.

When my children were about  a year old I used to take note of when they would go and learnt that about 20 to 30 minutes after they ate or drank they would go and so just by being observant for about a week I knew what time they would go and  then I would put them on the potty.

Always praise them and as time goes by put knickers on them and leave the potty where they can find it and they will soon learn to do their business and even empty it after awhile.

Be consistent and don't change the place where you leave the potty.

I found the best way was to put my son in undies and take him to the toilet or potty at least once an hour, I also took him to the toilet every time I went and explained to him what I was doing, if she is like alot of kids I know she may prefer to use the toilet with a toilet seat as that is what she sees you using thats how it was with my son.  Hope this helps and it all works out for you nice and easy.

I don't suppose you have any advice for a girl who is definitely ready to be trained. (tells me she has done poo or wee as soon as she has done it and wants changing) But just does not want to sit on the potty or toilet??

pull ups are a great idea, because you are not forever washing clothes, make it a fun thing, when she gets up of a mornig or after breeky sit her on the loo, then again at morning tea time, lunch, afternoon tea and before bed, i know it seems like a lot but after meals is when kids usually will go to the loo, if your persistent, she may just start going on her own. when she does do wees jump up an down say yuor so clever, and even give her a stamp or sticker (i used to do this with my kids at daycare) then they will be happy going to the loo, and may even start going on her own. hope this has helped good luck
