baby colic

I have a 7 week old with colic and you just need to remember that no matter what you do your baby will cry you can only try to help them through it. Here are some things we have tried:
a warm bath
car ride
being swaddled in the swaddle me blanket after it comes out of the dryer (works well)
bouncy seat
swing
car seat on top of the dryer
sugar water
walk around with baby in a front or side carrier (almost always works for us)
I hope this helps. I know it sucks. I am counting down the days/weeks until this is over with. I feel so bad not being able to fix this problem. Good luck to you and your baby, you will ge through it.

baby colic

My youngest had colic too and used to scream and scream.  One of the baby health nurses suggested we give her a dose of Mylanta (an antacid).  I wish I could remember the exact dose, but it wasn't very much.  That seemed to work.  The rest was just a case of growing out of it.

The other things we tried when she had an attack was a warm bath, a hot water bottle (well wrapped so it wasn't too hot) on her stomach, holding her face down so her tummy hung down and wasn't compressed at all, a bottle with cool boiled water.

My daughter Isabella suffered from colic for a few months too, it's not fun (for her or you). Sometimes a few sips of cooled boiled water after a feed helped to bring up her wind before it travelled to her bowel and got trapped. There is also a product available in Australian pharmacies called "Marina Infant Mixture" that offered some relief. They should have something similar in NZ. If she's bottle fed the Nuk anti-colic teats may be usefull too. When nothing would work I just had to walk around, holding her so that she faced the floor and got some gentle pressure from my arm under her belly while I rubbed her back. Good luck! They do grow out of it pretty quick.

are you breastfeeding?
if so baby could be gulping in air when they feed.
if bottle feeding it may not be colic but milk intolerance.
ask your chemist or clinic nurse for advice on lactos Intolerance. My daughter was always crying after a feed but i put it down to colic,as my second son had it.The mothers and baby nurse suggested it could be a milk allergy. She was right. my daughter did grow out of it though.Ask the baby clinic or doctor for advice.

If you are breastfeeding you could try drinking a fennel seed herbal tea.

Fennel is not only good for mums but also for bub. Make a mild tea cool it , put some honey in and put it in a bottle, for an inbetween drink. It will soothe . Also  if bub is a bit upset it will calm them down. This is a very old remedy, apparently my grandmother used it and I am 63 yrs. old. Also very good if young children have a sniffle or a slight cough. I hope this is of some use to you.
