Try the baby animals game. You have a list of animals on paper (photocopy to save time) and give one to each guest. The guest then writes in the space next to the animals name - the name of it's baby. Confused?

Eg:

  1. Cow                                     A: Calf
  2. Rabbit                                 A: Kitten
  3. Dog                                    A: Puppy
  4. Ant                                      A: Antlet
  5. Frog                                    A: Tadpole

it's quite fun if you use obscure animals :)

a great idea for a baby shower is give everyone a letter of the alphabet (or two) all depending on how many people you are going to invite then they have to purchase something that starts with that letter. Its great because she won't get doubles of things.

Hi when we had my baby shower our daughter was allready born,... the game we played anyone that said baby or our daughters name had to pay ($1.00). the money then went towards the mother and baby... we had roughly 15 people or so and my daughter got $47.00..

You buy some plastic pacifiers (blue or pink for the sex of the baby if you know) and tie a ribbon around each. You hand one to your guests. If someone says the word "baby" throughout the baby shower and someone else catches her saying it that person gets her pacifier. At the end of the shower whomever has the most pacifiers wins a prize.

Another game is a diaper bag scavenger hunt. You come up with 10 things that you may or may not find in your diaper bag and whoever has the most things wins--ideas could be chewing gum, band aids, wipes, brush, baby pictures, picture of your husband, cell phone, a box of raisins, etc.

what about the peg game..

you get two people to hold out a long bit if thick string and you put around thirty pegs on it and you have to see how many you can remove only using one hand, so as you get them off they have to stay in your hand the person who gets the most with out dropping them wins... good practice for doing things like the washing with one hand ..something all new mothers have to get used to..

some ive heard of are:

guess the sex, guess the date, (costs a gold coin to enter the contest, and whoever is closest wins the money)

pick how many sheets of toilet paper will fit exactly around the belly, winner gets a prize,

who can dress the doll the quickest (blind folded) this consists of a nappy, singlet and pants

and my fave, get some clay or play-dough, and prize goes to the most creative person to make a replica of the baby inside you

Instead of toilet paper we used yarn and had the guests cut a piece to the size they thought fit around my belly.  It was fun to see the different sizes!  One guest had so much string it went around my belly twice!

These are some I've seen played before:

Guess the tummy - everyone writes down what they think the pregnant ladies current tummy measurement is and once everyone's guessed you measure and the closest wins a prize.

Guess the date/sex - This doesn't have a winner cause you don't know till the baby is born, but it's an opportunity for everyone to record when they think the baby will be born and (if you don't already know) the gender and the weight.

Observation game - A number of baby related products - e.g. a nappy, powder, dummy, bottle, nappy bags, etc. etc. are placed on a tray and the players are allowed to look at the tray for about 20-30 seconds.  Then the tray is covered over and everyone has to try and remember as many objects as they can.  The winner is the one who remembers the most objects.  The whole tray of objects can then be given to the mummy-to-be as a present.

Guess the nappy - This one of the most gross looking games, but for all that, is one of the most amusing.  You get a number of different chocolate bars.  They are then smooshed into separate disposal nappies.  The participants then check the nappies (which should be labelled A, B, C etc.) and have to try and work out which chocolate bar is in which nappy.

Dice game - You sit in a circle and everyone has a piece of paper and a pen.  A dice is passed around the circle (or 2 or 3 dice at different points of the circle for a quicker game or a large group).  If you get a 6 you draw a body, 1 you draw a head (including face), 2 for a nappy, 3 for an arm, 4 for a leg, 5 for hair.  The idea is to be the first to draw a baby.  You have to get a 6 for a body before you can do any other parts.  And you have to get a 1 for the head before you can do hair.  You have to get 3 and 4 twice (only one arm or leg each time) and usually there are 6 hairs on the head.  Have a picture for people to check out so they know where they're up to.

I've also seen trivia or anagram puzzles that are baby related.  Have fun!

P.S.  I'm going to put these suggestions in the "Bright Ideas" group as an easy reference for any having a party.
