rejecting milk

Hi my 6 month(nearly) baby boy has been extremely fussy at milk time. He is taking in alot less and sometimes screams in protest. I have started giving some solids as a result which he enjoys, but obviously I want to keep the milk up. I have tried different teats but I don't think that is the cause of the problem.

Would love any advice please.............

Its so frustrating when they wont drink, my son was doing exactly the same at 4mths of age. My GP referred him to a pead and it turned out he was allergic to dairy and suffered from silent reflux. After starting him on soy formula and introducing rice cereal he settled down again. I never thought that he could be allergic to dairy, apparently for the first 3mths of life they will very rarely show signs of allergies cos they are still carrying mums antibodies. It can all get quite confusing, I hope you can make sense of what i have written. I think you should go and see your GP and see what they say cos at 6mths they still need a nutritious drink of milk.

Hi- Thanks for the comment and yes that is something to check, I went to my GP and he was not concerned as he is in the 90% for weight and height. The GP said he might be expressing his will, not sure if I am totally happy with that answer but will give him a couple more and weight him next week.

I had the EXACT same problem. With Jaidan it was his little teeth hurting. I made up his formula cold. The heat was hurting his gums as his teeth were coming through. Persevere and also rub some bonjella 10 minutes before his bottle is due. Will have time to work. If this works u know its just his teeth.
Good Luck

Hi I would take him to a child health clinic nurse and see what they would suggest.I think a sippy cup is fine, there  really is no hard and fast rules over these things. If baby can handle it with ease it is fine.Regards Merle

Hi there!

I had the problem with both my kids and ended up putting them straight on cows milk and introduced vegis as well. Annaliese was 4 1/2 months wen i put her on cows milk and katherine was 6 months old and they are both really healthy kids.

If you decide to put them on cows milk  for the first week add a little water to it and prgress to get to full strength thats to help with the poos so it doesnt go hard straight away so the doctor and specialist told me.

The reason i saw a specialist is becuase annaliese was so young to reject boob and formula so the doctor sent me to the specialist with her.

Hope it help a little but you will work it out as all us mothers do lol.

There are many thing you can try my daughter went for three days without drinking anything at all before she was six months I tried formula, Goats milk, Soy milk and in the end my doctor suggested half normal cows milk half water but I strongly suggest that you take your baby to the doctor before trying this. At six months babies definately still need alot of milk.

Maybe he is ready for a sippy cup or nondrip cup/bottle. Try a bit of water as well?

'the books' in Australia say that its ok to introduce one at that age but it is individual. Some are ready others aren't. You could always try him on one and if he regects is put is aside for a few weeks and try again. Some cups come with attatchment for the introduction of cippy cups that keep the flow slow. Then be taken out later on. He may not be ready but my son things every new type of cup I give him is a toy but at least he plays with it and get water (eventually). My son is 11mo. Good luck
