The Big One

The other day my daughter called me up to her room while she was supposed to be napping and handed me a poo.  "It's a big one" she said, all amazed.  Ever since then, every day, she has taken off her nappy during her nap and either pooed and/or weed on her bed.  I've tried tight fitting pants etc but she just takes them off.  Short of putting her in her swimmers (which is the step I'm contemplating next) I'm not sure what I should do.  I'm getting tired of changing and washing sheets! Any ideas anyone?  Please somebody tell me that this is just a phase.  p.s. she is not toilet trained.  She refuses to go to the toilet at this stage.

It sounds as if she is ready for toilet training.  Usually when they start removing it, it is because they have gone and it feels uncomfortable to them.  She recognizes what it is so I would just guess that it's time to start trying the toilet.  I didn't bother with the small training potty because I did not want to clean it out.  So I bought the little seat that fits on the big toilet and my boys really liked this alot.  Of course they need supervision with this one being so high.  Try taking her at the times like when she wakes up immediately put her, (that is what most adults do when they wake up right?).  About 10 minutes after she finishes her morning meal.  And so on.  I took my older son every 10 minutes so he got used to the idea of going to the toilet.  It may be a good idea to take the bottle away which should take about 3 or so days to get used to it.  Take care and my wishes are with you.  Have a wonderful day. :o)

I too think that she's ready to be toilet trained.  We've got a seat that goes on top of the toilet and I have been putting her on there and waiting.  Unfortunately, if she thinks she's actually got to go she clams up and refuses to go in the toilet.  She gets upset and asks for the nappy to be put back on.  Eventually, I give in and put the nappy back on and she waits a minute or two and then she goes.  Very frustrating.  She clearly understands the concept of the toilet (she's certainly seen me go enough times on account of how she can open doors now) but she just appears to not want to use it herself.  I'm not sure where to go from here to be honest.

I used the toddler seat that fits over the toilet seat for the same reason, who wants to be cleaning out a potty after each use when you can just flush it all away??  My daughter was trained at 1 and a half, the kid next door is 12 months and was outside in knickers today, so if she's ready i'd try her.

I'm just wondering how old she is.  It might be time to start toilet training and giving rewards such as a stamp or sticker if she even sits on the toilet whether she does anything or not.  That's how I always start toilet training, by giving a sticker or stamp just for sitting there for a minute at nappy change time.

Put her 'all in one' s on backwards so she can't get to the press studs. I used to work with children with special needs and this was how we got around the problem.

I'm wondering if she just needs a little encouragement to try the toilet. have you tried a reward chart maybe just starting by rewarding her for sitting on the toilet and then move on. My son had to have his nappy on backwards (if he was wearing a disposable) and then taped on. It wasn't until a couple of weeks later theat he toilet trained himself that I figured out what was going on. Apparently all kids do the poo thing but my eldest hasn't done it and the only time my youngest got his nappy off and saw poo he was too horrified to do anything and came running and screaming into the kitchen.

Not sure if this helps but hope it gets better for you.
