breastfeeding

Has anyone had this happen? I have been breastfeeding my 2 month old since she was born. The doctor said she has colic and acid reflux. We have been giving her a bottle of formula, not anything special just the similac advance, and she is happier. Back to her usual self like before the colic set in. Could it be the formula? It is always after I feed it to her. It maybe something in my diet, but I have cut out dairy (and her formula is dairy) and all foods that would make me gassy. No veggies unless they are cooked or in a caserole. HELP!!!!

I'm a little confused.  Did you mean the colic is worse when she is breastfeeding or when she's exclusively on formula?

Hi

My son had reflux issues when he was nursing. I used a special anti reflux formula - Karicare AR-which solved all issues for us, if you wanted to continue to feed with breast milk you are able to purchase an additive that comes in a powder form whch you add to your breast milk in the bottle give it a shake so that it mixes in and it will thicken, as for the formula/breast milk being so thick, I used Avent bottles and teats - they have a graduated flow teat, which has three different flow types (slow, medium and fast) with this teat all you do is turn the bottle and have the number one facing up for the slow and if you find that that is too slow, you turn the bottle until the number two is facing up and so on...

I hope that this helps you out, let me know if you would like to know anything else, or if I can help out in any other way...

good luck

Chelle

HI there

Just wanted to ask if the formula is a special reflux formula and does it have to have a filler in it? My grandson suffered on any milk (breast or ordinary formula) until he was put on a reflux formula that had to have a filler added to. The filler makes the formula quite thick and stopped him from throwing up as much. I wonder if you expressed your milk and used the filler mixed with it in a bottle if that would help. I'm no expert, just a grannie who cares about any baby and just thought I would pass this on to you. Ask your dr, chemist or nursing mum's association if you could try it. That way bub would still be getting breast milk, Only drawback with the filler is you need a bigger hole in the teat otherwise they get sooo tired sucking..... anyway it's a thought that could be worth considering.  Good luck and let me know how you get on.

the formula is not special. it has fewer bubbles for babies tummy but it does have milk. maybe she has a food allergy?
