headaches

hi guys im 22 weeks pregs an im a chronic headache and occassionlly severe migraine sufferer and i hate taking panadol or anything like that when im not pregs so imagine my distaste at having to take panadol for the last 3 days to get rid of a headache to no avail and my fear is if i dont get rid of it within the next day it will turn into a migraine that will knock me out for days and i cant afford to have that happen with 4 bubs under age 4. so can anyone help me with advice that is not a pill as this obviously has not worked for the last 3 days and does not take up to much of my time as i have none till late at night and i dont want my frustrations taken out on my littlies

A natural solution which may work for you is lavendar oil. rub a little on your temple periodically thoughout the day. It works for me however it may not work for everyone, may be worth a try though

Hi
Headaches and migraines
Do you normally suffer from asthma, hay fever, or anything sinus?
 if not
Have you changed anything that could trigger off any alergy? (your chemicals are now more sensitive than before and with littleies already your body really is sensitive)
Have you changed your diet being pregnant you might not even have realised that you had, are you intaking anything that you didn't before? (You could find yourself not so tollerant to certain products, eg chocolate, all fizzy drink, coffee, all tea, tomatos, etc)
Do your shoes hurt your feet? (the smallest amount of swelling of the feet can have a terrible effect on you, try getting your other children to rib your feet as a kind of play so you can sit and they can learn to help you....it's also water fun and most kids like water play.)

Why all the questions? Well you can identify what you have changed if you haven't changed anything then there is an outside influence, which leads to stress.
Sleep do you get enough? (This is no joke do your children have naps still? Can you get anyone to baby sit while you get a nanna nap?)
Are you over doing it? (Doing all household jobs in the one day then everything is done? or Are you doing one or two jobs and taking good breaks inbetween?)

Have you seen you Dr about this as it could be something simple like a mineral or vitamin boost is needed but coz your pregnant ask for a blood test to see what your able to take.

I really hope this helps and good luck as I know headches and migraines are dibilitating.

I agree with Tadexpress. My migraines seem to stem from my back and the chiropractor is the only one who seems to be able to relieve it.

If you can handle the smell, Lavender essential oil (make sure it's a good brand like Springfields if you are in Oz) is good. A couple of drops on your temples and a couple of drops on the back of your neck/upper back area will help relieve the pressure. Lavender is safe for use in pregnancy. Make sure you wash your hands thoroughly afterwards and keep the bottle out of reach of your kids.

Hope you feel well soon.

Plenty of water and place an ice pack at the base of your neck, this slows the blood flow a little and stops the pounding. Other than that I would suggest a chiropractor or physio to release the tensness.

I so feel for you in this situation.  I really strongly recommend that you see your doctor because it could be related to something with your pregnancy.  Could be high blood pressure which can come from added stress etc.  I had a migraine during my first pregnancy and after a week of trying to get rid of it on my own the doctor forced me into the hospital and basically made me sleep.  They gave me demerol, which I was refusing to take until he pretty much forced the issue because of the other problems it could cause not just for me, but for the baby.  Me not sleeping or eating properly because of the headache endangered my child and not just me.  When you are pregnant and having such a horrible headache it really is wise to go in to make sure the baby is fine and that you are fine.  Some women develop high blood pressure, diabetes etc during pregnancies and I really feel it's worth going to seek medical attention.  I know it probably might not be the exact advice you were seeking but I hope that you go to get checked out.  I hope you get better soon and hope that everything turns out fine should you visit your doc.

Have you tried something that you can rub on your temples?  Like you, I'm not a great fan of popping pills and suffer from the occassional migraine.  We have a product in the UK called 4head.  You gently rub it on your temples and it seems to magically get rid of the headache that tends to preceed the migraine.

It would certainly be worth asking your local pharmacist or health food shop if you can get something like it.  Make sure to check that it is safe for use during pregnancy as some of this type of thing may contain lavender or some other essential oil that could make it unsafe.

I hope this helps.

Wendy

Essential oils are safe to use during pregnancy as long as they are not taken orally. Lavender is great during pregnancy for many things because of it healing properties. They only essential oils to avoid are aniseed and fennel because of the oestrogenic activity that influences the menstral cycle. Please make sure that you follow the directions on all essential oils bottles and make sure that they are pure essential oils.
