Dentistry question

E chipped her tooth on something at the playground yesterday afternoon.  How soon do I need to get her into a dentist?  I was just gonna take her when we got home, but there is a spot of dirt/rust in the chip and we dont want to damage the tooth - even though they are her milk teeth.  Is it ok to wait?  It will only be for a week, so should we try get an emergency appt here?
Peace

Dentistry question

Thanks for all the replies.

I called around a couple of places on saturday lunchtimeish/early afternoon.  Everywhere was closed, and most hadnt opened on Saturday anyhow being christmas/new years.  The emergency dental place opened from 10-2.  I missed them by minutes by the time I managed to get hold of the number.

NHS direct (a UK service) is generally useless, and that is the comment from their staff - personal experience supports this and I only call them when I need to have the record of the call kept.  They dont deal with dental.

Emergency Room is not good for dental either - unless it is a total wound with blood gushing etc.  Having worked there already I knew what they were gonna say, so am waiting until they open up tomorrow before we get her seen.

The chip itself is tiny, but it has a small amount of what looks like dirt that we dont want to decay her tooth.  So have been brushing religiously and so frequently I hope we haven't been too exuberant.  The bump was major, but she has not complained of any pain since it happened late friday afternoon, so I suspect that there is no nerve damage or long term damage to the locality.  *fingers crossed and prayers prayed*

Thank you all again for the support and advice.  It has been greatly appreciated and I have been far more vigilent as a result.
Peace

Dentistry question

firstly, give her a big hug from all of us here

having chipped my teeth a few too many times, what i've heard was best is to call the dentist and talk with them.

the latest time, i waited a good while if you remember, and i was fine...

but i am not E, and i'd prolly try get her in PDQ... i know there's a place over st pauls way that is good, takes emergency appts usually and is on the nhs. it's near the lego building post office and the uni chapel down there somewhere, dad knows where methinks

love you both xXx

Dont wait, its unlikely they will be able to repair it as in putting the piece back in but they may cap it of grind off any sharp edges. In future if the whole tooth is knocked out, try to keep handling to a minimum and store in milk getting to the dentist asap.

Try and get an appointment. It's always best to play it safe when it comes to teeth. A seemingly minor incident can have some long-term consequences. A good dentist will let you know what to watch for in the next few days/weeks. Or, if all is good, he can give you peace of mind,

Dentistry question

hi there i would take her asap, dakotah had a nasty fall on the tiled step and hit her front tooth damaging her gums anf loosening three teeth. they did many xrays to determine facial fractures and all was ok but i was told to expect further trouble in weeks to come,

they can get abcesses in the wound and i was told thast trauma to the tooth can actually cause the bone surrounding the tooth to become brittle over time , dakotah now has to have monthly xrays and has a partially deformed gum above her front tetth that are now turning a horrid shade of grey due to nerve damage.

even though theyu are her baby teeth i have also been told that trauma to her baby teeth can actually pass to the big teeth . this has all been very stressful especially to a 2 yr old.
