Personally I think that you have to want to quit for anything to work.   I tried everything and the only thing that made me quit was being pregnant and even then it was really hard.  I even said I would quit until he was born.  Then I went home to my home town to see my uncle one last time before he died (he had lung cancer).  I watched him die ( and my grandfather years ago).  It wasn't the dieing part that made me never touch a smoke again it was watching my Aunt and 3 cousins having to watch there very young father suffer and die and now they have to live there lives with out him.   I don't want to ever put my son threw that until I am very old.  I know this doesn't help you but I just wanted to share with you my experience.  Good Luck with it and when you do quit I promise you will feel so much better and reward yourself, very important.

hi i gave up smoking 3 years ago, and i was able to get a script from my doctor to take tablets named zyban, so go and see your local doctoe and seek advise, as i  don''t ever feel that i need to have a smoke now...Also make sure you advise your doctor if you are on the pill as these tablets can affect, but its not medically proven that i know off now, but when i took them 6 weeks later i was pregnant, but i wouldnt have it any other way as i love my children dearly... Good luck and i hope you can do it

Read a book called Easy Way to Stop Smoking by Allen Carr.  I'm really serious here.  I started smoking when I was 12 and always believed I would give up on the day I found out I was pregnant.  Needless to say that didn't happen!!  I tried patches, inhalators and cold turkey.  During these attemmpts I broke many a household item and still started again after just a short while.  This book is not the normal 'you have to pack up because it's expensive/ killing you/ harming your kids/ unsociable etc. sort of thing.  It only costs £8.99.  I got mine from Boots.  Give it a shot - what have you got to lose?

I know you can do it

Wendy

I honestly think you need to be ready. But not only that, if you have young children, just think of what you would be putting them through if you got cancer and got really sick? It's what motivated me to quit when i was pregnant with my bubs. Not only that i lost my dad to cancer when i was only 8.....it was horrible to see him suffer from so much pain! It's why i quit....i didn't want to put my daughter through the heartache i went through!
I really think you should think about these things. Think of your children....if that doesn't motivate you my dear, then nothing will!

You must ready want to give it up  or its noy going to work. When you feel like a smoke  do something to take your mind off it   . Orange juice helps stop the craving   when you want a smoke .

Everyone  got there own way of giving up smoking   .  Also have you try lollies instead of the patches . The other way is to is to set a day to stop smoking and strat cutting back on the smoking before that day .

best of luck with it

Hi there I believe you have to be committed to giving up first, then I would have a support system like the quit line. They will help you devise a program that will be the most likely for you to stick to.Good luck regards Merle the ex smoker

It will only work if you are ready to give it up. If you are still saying you love doing it, maybe you're not ready to give it up? My mum gave it up when I was 9 and she had tried the patches, hypnotherapy, those tapes you could buy (maybe still can) and all sorts of things, but the thing that made her give up was that she wasn't allowed to smoke inside the house, as my older brother and I had bad asthma and my little brother was just a few months old. A cyclone hit and it was give up or smoke outside in the cyclonic weather! 4 days of being inside unable to smoke gave her a headstart when she tried again. I wish you the best of luck with it, but be prepared that if you aren't ready it might not work the first time you try to give it up.
