stand up or sit down to do wee-wees?

We are potty training our 2.5 yr old boy.
Did you teach your boy to stand up to do wee-wees to start with or did you teach him first to sit down and do wee-wees?

We were unsuccessful with sitting. Occassional my big boy would go but would make so much mess! Then hubby showed him and ever since he wants to stand like Dad - no fiddling either. Just pull pants down and sssss!

stand up or sit down to do wee-wees?
To start with our son Cole, we used a potty chair with the shield for boys, so he sat, about one month later he began to stand,  I had him out in the field with me one day and he said he needed to go potty and I asked him if he could wait and he said no, so I took him behind the hay shed and told him to pee on a rock, ever since then he stands, the problem with that is when ever we are out away from a rest room I tell him he has to wait and he says I pee on rock!  Oh well I guess boys will be boys!

I am also trying to potty train my son right now, and he sits to pee.  I think when he is past the whole accident stage then I will introduce him to standing is only 2 so he is still young.  I just want to know how to get him to go poo on the potty because that is his problem.

We started as sit down then progressed to stand up. In the end he saw daddy do it and thought it was cool. But at least he learn't to sit down first so he can now choose which way he is most comfortable with.

I say potty training is such a handful anyway that I suggest you go with whatever they feel comfortable with.  We tried the potty and my son didn't like it, so now he sits on the toilet.  He climbs up there and is quite happy.  He had just turned 3 when it all finally clicked and overnight he went from nappies to not (after much heartache and attempts on our part).  So good luck!

BTW he only stands when he is 'watering' the tree outside!!

well i have always tought them to sit down and do wees just until they are a little older and have more control and better aim, my son thomas who is also 2 and a half sits on the toilet and does wees into the toilet on one of those toddler toilet seats you place under the second toilet lid, he started out by sitting and weeing into the potty ( we tought him to hold his doodle down whilst weeing otherwise it sprays straight out of the potty lol) and now he goes on the toilet i don't usually teach them to stand up and go until there about 3 maybie 3 and a half, and thats going on my eldest son james

My sons used to have terrible aim till a friend of mine  told me what she did . Put a pingpong ball in the toilet (we put a face on ours and called him mr wee LOL) Get them to aim for that, worked for mine. Now if we could get them to put the seat down that would be great.

he started by siting now he does not like going to our toilet (I am going to buy the fish seat soon maybe he would change his mind) as every time he has to go to toilet the neigbours are calling the police (just joking) he uses a cup (that we keep in desinfectant all the time) or the potty.

Hi there, I think all kids are different. Some will prefer sitting some will prefer standing. I started teaching my son sitting down but quickly discovered that he liked doing it the same way as daddy. I suggest trying both and just see which way he seems more comfortable with. Good Luck.

stand up or sit down to do wee-wees?

Hi Clay,

We are teaching Zack now and he has had one success while sitting down I think to try and get him to stand up and do it is a bit difficult for him. Every child id different though Zack dosn't like to stand up he prefers sitting I would try and find out what your little man prefers. That way it is what he feels most comfortable doing.

GOOD LUCK.
