What movies have you and yours enjoyed?

Let's add a bit of levity to this section. What good kids movies do you think are showing, or are newly released on DVD, at the moment? I was really disappointed with Happy Feet. Both my son and I were pretty bored by the fifth penguin dancing sequence!! My son didn;t mind Charlotte's Web though he found it a bit slow. Top movies for his master, age 3.5, are Cars and Over the Hedge and he still loves The Incredibles. What have you and your child enjoyed and why? (Oh a recent find for us - not new- was Return to Neverland, the sequel to Peter Pan - my son loved it.)

Marni has been enjoying OVER and OVER, a movie called the Sandlot, oh and the Sandlot 2. They are about a bunch of kids who like playing baseball and they get into all sorts of trouble when their ball goes into a yard with a 'Beast!' I quite enjoyed it too!

Another one is the old movie, Beethoven and the many sequals this movie has. They are fun! We also like Cheaper by the dozen 1 & 2, Search of a lost princess, The cat in the hat, The robin hood gang and old classics like Annie!

Try some of these....they are great for all ages! Es...xo

Our family really enjoy movies so, over the years, we have collected a fair few.
  • The Emperor's New Groove (Kronk is da bomb!)
  • Toy Story 1&2
  • Harry Potter (all of them)
  • Madagascar
  • 101 Dalmations
  • Hercules (I like James Woods)
  • Ice Age
  • Cinderella (original animation) and Ever After (Drew Barrymore)
  • The Incredibles
  • The Princess Bride
We also like a few TV shows that we have on DVD such as Scrubs, Men Behaving Badly, Blackadder, Mr Bean, Black Books, and Futurama.

Thankfully as the kids have gotten older I haven't had to sit through too many bad kids' movies. Recently we saw Arthur and the Invisibles which was cute enough but I got bored... my youngest (10) and I saw The Pursuit of Happyness and LOVED IT.

I am about to show them An Inconvenient Truth. And I cannot recommend highly enough showing them SBS World News as soon as they start getting interested in the world beyond us... although a bit more graphic, at least you hear what's really happening, not just what the Packer family would like you to hear about.

Favourite movies now include anything with Johnny Depp (*sigh*... I've passed that down to my daughter), and most comedies and dramas. I don't believe in severe censorship, especially around sex (why is sex deemed inappropriate whereas violence is acceptable?!). My older two, being teens, love horror movies.

My daughter is 3.5 years also. Her favourites are Finding Nemo, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Neverending Story, The Wizard of Oz, Mary Poppins, Hans Christian Anderson, Madeline, anything with Thomas the Tank Engine in it, and the Lion King.  We don't often watch movies, but she is often given them for birthday/easter/christmas so her collection is ever-growing. Very handy with all this rain around in North Qld!  She watched Rabbit Proof Fence when I had it out from the video store and she showed emotion at it and asked a lot of questions about it too.  Documentaries featuring sharks and crocodiles have also been a hit, although we don't own any of those we only hire them.  Most of her favourite movies are the older ones, but she loves them.  I also took her to see Happy Feet and she didn't mind it, but we won't be buying it.

I always fall back on the old favorites for younger children 101 Dalmations, Cinderella, The Land Before Time, ( I think they are up to # 10 or higher now) Snow White, If you have a rental store near you, they usually have a kids section with an  up to date selection!  Ice age #1 is far better than #2! If you still collect movies on VHS I would try the second hand shops as you can get them fairly cheap as DVD's are the new age thing!
