my sister in law told me this recipe and now i swear by it coz he never leaves any to waste!

get 500grams of chicken mince and cook it through over the pan,
add a cup of cooked rice,
some peas and other chopped up veggies,
mix it all in well, and add some chicken gravy until it all Just sticks and isn't too runny,
freeze the lot in little containers for when you wanna feed

you can also substitute the chicken mince for chopped up fish, or pork and beef mince
or you can use pasta instead of rice, there are alot of recipes i have made up being told this one...

hope it helps, give it a try,
xx channy

my son refuses jar food now too, and i don't blame him, have you tried the stuff? it is soooo bland! At least when you cook your food you know exactly what goes in it and that it will taste nice, geez i hated spending the money on jar food and all he would do is spit it out LOL!!

xx channy

I did both. When I was out and about they always got jar food.  With my eldest, I used to make up casserole-style things in the slow cooker and then puree them in the food processor.  I then put them in ice cube trays to freeze them and whenever I need food for her I would reheat a few icecubes worth for her.  They also mixed really well with farex to make it a bit thicker.

With my youngest, I went back to work when she was 10 weeks old, so it was just too hard.  She was on jar food nearly the whole time.

Funnily my eldest is now the one with the sweet tooth who hates vegetables, whereas my youngest prefers savoury things and loves her vegies.  Go figure.

I had one of those stick blenders.  Still use it for smoothies, etc.  My daughter's favourite meal was I used to boil rice and add peas, corn and carrot, then put it all through the blender with a little bit of breastmilk if needed.  If breastmilk is added, it can't be re-heated in the microwave.  That was ok because I used to make a meal for myself then take a little bit of it to give my daughter.  Another favourite was spinnach, corn, peas, carrot, tomatoes and spaghetti all put through the blender.  I used to make heaps of this then freeze it in those ice cube trays that have the cover on them. Perfect size for a 6-month old baby!  I used to buy the Vanilla Soy Custard and pureed fruit in the jar if we were travelling, but the one time I did buy the veges in a jar she refused to eat it, it looked watery and it smelt funny so she didn't eat it.  From then on I would just take the stick blender with me, along with the gas cooker and cook some veges and blend them up. Needless to say, we didn't travel much when she was under 1!

I do a bit of both depending on if we are at home or away.

My daughter loves pasta with tomato and basil.  I simply cook the pasta, while this is cooking cook down the tomatos, season with salt and pepper, add basil, then mix the the tomato and pasta together.  She loves it.  It freezes really well also.  she also like it if you add some mince to the mix (sort of a spag bol).

i used both.. one day a week i would spend cooking for my babies.. casseroles... veges... stewed fruits... etcetc.... then i would freeze it in sterilised baby food jars... one of those stick blenders is fantastic for pureeing food... i dont think bought baby food is that bad, but i stil prefer home cooked stuff, that way you know exactly what goes into it...bought stuff is great for emergencies, and to have on hand just in case.

I used to make a blend of fresh veges and cook them all down and puree them. I made a different blend each week and froze it all into ice cubes. That way I could defrost what I needed if he was having veges for dinner. Sometimes I added tomato puree (without the skin and pips) to the mix just for a change. Other times I would put cooked mince into the mix (needed to be put in the blender again until her got older). He never really got the same food everynight or the same blend...musta been a bit strange for little man. It worked tho and now he eats everything we put in front of him. My son has very rarely had canned or jar food - only at other peoples houses. Grandma keeps a stash of it at her house just in case we get stuck and cant get there to pick the kiddies up.

I used to make my own food for my daughter. I used to give her what we were having, and just put it into the blender, and she was fine with it, then as she got older, would cut everything up small. It's alot healthier and cheaper if you do it your self than the supermarket one's. Don't know what's in them lot. Salt etc is high in them also. Yuk

I agree with this opinion.... get yourself a blender and mash up your own home cooked food. Less salt , preservatives/dyes and sugar ... steam fresh veggies and puree them, etc. Later on, just cut those cooked foods into chunks.
