How do i get them to like brushing their teeth

I have a 3 and a 2 year old boy and in the last 2 years i cant count how many toothbrushes i have bought. They seem to get "lost" well i went and bought 2 more again today and i took them straight in to brush their teeth with their milky teeth toothpaste. and OH MY GOODNESS the screams I tried to make it fun and then told them i would pick them up to show them their clean white teeth in the mirror. No way they were not having it I more or less had to hold them on my lap to try and brush their teeth. 10 min afterwards i was folding clothes when i seen my 3 year old sneak into the bathroom and get the new toothbrushes and was on his way to the bin. At least now i know where the rest have gone! Please help what can i do?

Just an idea, my daughter hates brushing her teeth too. I use one of the sonic/vibrating ones and u can get them for the kids too. She loves this. I think it adds a little bit of fun to the task too

Run the toothbrushes under hot water for a bit first, this softens the bristols, sounds as though they might be a bit tough maybe??

Get the pic on a pack of smokes that shows the rotten teeth & tell them thats what happens if you don't brush your teeth 2 times every single day.

bet that does the trick.

It is not really easy and it helps if the children are at leas interested in brushing.  My two boys, 4 and 2, go in spurts about liking to brush their teeth.  Sometimes there are those days that it is like a huge battle to get it done.  Overall, what I found that works with my two guys, is "taking turns" to brush.  Another person I noticed in the comments does the same and really this is what works best.  I also let them see through the mirror what I am doing and then it is their turn.  I make it fun for them and now my 4 year old at random times will come out and say, "Mommy, I brushed my teeth wanna smell?"  really it is a bunch of trying this or that and you will find something eventually that will be a hit.  I too have to hide the toothbrushes because they like to walk around with them and chew on them.  My youngest, 2 years old, decided to use his toothbrush to brush the carpet lol.  Anyhow...I hope the taking turns with brushing idea works for you.  Have a great day!

your kids may be a little too young for these but the tablets you can get from the chemist are great at motiviating kids to brush their teeth..you chew them, and all the plaque on your teeth turns BRIGHT RED and then they get to brush them til they are sparkly white again..i used these for my kids recently.. moreso for my 9 yo daughter whos teeth were never clean after she supposedly cleaned them .. they were always disgusting and furry.. ewww..the 3 of us would brush our teeth... chew a tablet.. and see where we had missed, and brush again..yes, it was messy and we loooked like rabid dogs with red foamcoming out of our mouths.. but they could actually SEE what they were achieving.. and i think that not being able to see a result is sometimes hard for them.. they are called Disclotabs

i think though, that while your children should beencourage to clean their own teeth they are still to young to be trusted with the task themselves.. the dentist advised that my son cleans his teeth of a morning and i clean them of a night.. and hes 6! Using the oral b pooh bear toothpaste is probably a good move, Josh didnt like the minty toothpaste AT ALL.

Good Luck! xoxo

I remember those tablets from when I was a kid - wow that's going back a bit!

I also had the same problem with the mint toothpaste - my daughter hates anything mint-flavoured. It was not til I discovered some of the other flavours like pooh bear (we are now on the disney princess bubblegum flavour) that my daughter started being happy about brushing.  I don't know what we'll do when she is too old for kids toothpaste though - all the adult ones seem to be mint!

I also let her come shopping when she gets a new toothbrush so she can pick the design - then she could hardly wait to get home to start using it!

one thing is that you dont leave the tooth brushes where they are you put them away somewhere that you know of not them ,,, hide it yourself,,

we brush ours together ,, there are many flavours you can buy also that they seem to like better than the mint,,

when i brush my teeth its time for him to brush his ,, i also have an extra one for hiom to clean his teeth while hes holding another brush ,,, at times i have to just hold onto him also ,, but it dosent matter how he squeels i will make sure that they are clean lol its tuff to him lol

How do i get them to like brushing their teeth
I only every bought the baby toothpaste, now she has the 1-5 toothpaste, and only ever McLean's or Colgate.  What I did was I would take turns with her, I would brush her front teeth then she would brush her front teeth, then we'd move on to brush a different part I'd brush first then it was her turn.  I don't think a 3 year old is old enough to correctly do it alone yet, but I have no medical experience.  I know that we get things at my work (at a childcare centre) all the time from different dental places and all of them say that children up to 8 need assistance with brushing their teeth.  But if you make it fun by turn-taking, and singing a song like "This is the way we brush our teeth" it makes it fun and it gives each of them 5 minutes of 1-on-1 time with Mum which may not always happen.  I know how pressed for time us mums can get and I only have 1 child, so I can appreciate how little time mums get with each child when they have more than one.  Hope I've been helpful, in one way or another.

Have you tried the fruity or bubble gum flavored kids toothpastes?  What about the cute battery operated spin brushes?  My guys always liked the way those toothbrushes "tickled their teeth"? How about a reward chart with a sticker for every time they brush nicely with a special treat for them at the end of each week if they brushed good "x" number of times?

Sorry, that's about all I have.  Good
