Pregnancy test was positive

I just did a home test and it was positive - the test line was very dark even darker than the control line!
Does this mean I most likely am pregnant?
I will be ringing doctors tomorrow to try and get an appt but its nearly impossible to get in without a weeks notice!!  With the blood tests - how long does it generally take for results to come through?
Im just a little concerned as Im travelling to thailand next thursday and if I am pregnant I dont want to jeopardise it at all- my holiday isnt a relaxing beach hotel stay - its very much roughing it and eating dodgy food - so probably not the best idea .... so before i consider cancelling just want to know for sure
What are the chances of the test being a false positive?

The tests these days are very good.  If you can't get to the doctor why don't you do another test then if it comes up positive again well you know what that means.

Congrats, you're pregnant!!

Your baby should be just fine even with your travel to Thailand. Just keep to thoroughly cooked foods. As far as water, I would stick to bottled water to canned drinks and pasteurized drinks. Things you eat there will probably not harm your baby, what you need to be concerned about is that if you get sick, options for treatment for you is limited because of your pregnancy. So definitely take care of yourself and you will be in turn taking care of your baby.

Also, you may want to check with health officials as to places that are not so good for you to visit - in terms of rampant diseases and things like that.

Good luck!

All I can say is congratulations your having a baby. Those tests don't lie. The line only comes up if you have pregnancy hormone in your urine.

the home tests are very accurate.

I flew across the country when I was about 6wks along and the doctor told me to wear support stockings (available at the drugstore) and make sure I did not sit for hours upon hours but get up and walk around as much as I was able.

As far as the foods go, if you are concerned, eat foods that must come out of a can, shell or peel (eggs, bananas, etc) and drink bottled or canned water and drinks - many of the nasties in the tropics live in the water, and if you haven't built up any immunity to them they can get you. On that note, avoid ice (it won't be made with bottled water) and if you are very susceptible, keep a bottle of water with you for brushing your teeth.

Ok, Yes i will be ringing first thing in the morning for appts, and yeah I really dont want to put the baby (if there is one) in any sort of harm, cause I know with the holiday planned and budget allowed the foods will not be safe for sure, so holiday will most likely be cancelled once doctors confirm.  Thanks for the responses!

Pregnancy test was positive

When I first took my pregnancy test (at home) it was REAL dark, more than normal (i guess then what it should be) and when I went to the doctor she said my levels were high because I had been pregnant for a while and did not know it!

I was on the Depro Provera needle too and it took me almost 2 years to get my period back, that's why I never knew I was pregnant because I hardly ever got my period and it was never on time!

Defiently go to your doctor asap, they might be able to get the blood right away and test it. Usually its within a few days before you get the results back!

Ok well if you brought a good brand pregnency test then they are usually right. A doctor can have a blood test pregnany result in 24hours but they may also do a urine test and theirs are spot on. When you  ring for an appointment explain that you are going to thailand next week.

you realy need to find out before you go to ensure the saftey of you and your baby, as i when i was pregnant in my first and last trimesters I wasnt allowed to fly to melbourne from perth the doctors said it was to ricky but that was 9 years ago things could have changed since then.

I hope this has helped and good luck.

i should also mention that I was on the Depo Provera needle, but went off it around June, and have waited for my period to come back - which it did in early november, and then had light bleeding for like a day two weeks later - since then nothing... I had done a pregnancy test around early dec i think and it was negative.

Pregnancy test was positive

Hi, I have used my share of preg tests. And this I know....Unless you were on fertility drugs the test would not have come out positive, never mind the deep  color yours did. The stronger the color, the more pregnancy horomone your body is producing. Within the first 3 months of pregnancy is the most important. Your eating habits should be as healthy as possible. During this time is when the baby's brain and nervous system (to name a couple of things) are forming.

I do not want to hinder your decision to take the trip; however; I would pay very close attention to the foods I eat from here on in. You should also begin taking a prenatal vitamin. They can be found in drug stores over the counter. Materna is the one I use though the generic brands contain the same amount of vitamins and minerals.

Hope this helps a bit :-)

Kristen

Materna always got me sick, so when I told my doctor that, she prescribed me PregVit.. Its 2 pills, 1 pink 1 blue and you take one in the morning and one at night. After I was on PregVit I was never sick again.

So if you do get sick, ask your doctor about something else you may be able to use. I know its available in Canada but not sure about anywhere else!
