Quick Question

Hi guys My 7yo son loves watching the Simpsons and Futurama. I know that a lot of people say that these shows aren't very good for young children and I do understand why, with all the tongue-in-cheek comments and double meanings etc. I was just wondering if anyone else doesn't mind their kids watching these shows.

Quick Question

My son has watched simpsons every night of his life since he was 6months old.  He would cry during the ad breaks until it came back on!

As for the double meanings to things, my son is 10 and still doesnt get them.

Quick Question
My husband watched these shows as a kid (simpsons, and now futurama), and he is fine. As long as you don't let your child imitate these characters I don't see the problem. If you start seeing him acting out, I would end the tv watching for awhile and explain why. Also mention that these are pretend characters and he shouldn't act this way.

Quick Question

My eldest is 4 and has been watching both for ages. He loves them. they are his reward for cleaning up his toy room at the end of the day.

I think as A parent you have to decide what your kids are OK to watch. My eldest is 4 and has seen all the star wars, x-men, harry potter and the fantastic 4. He is mature enough to understand that they are pretend- he tells his olde friends all the time. for some reason he can't watch Nija turtles as he goes a bit wacky after so I don't let him.

I won't let him watch family guy or southpark they are a bit much for me most times.

My youngest doesn't even watch TV -I think it bores him

Quick Question

my kids love both of those shows. i let them watch without too much of a worry. Most of the inneuendo is way over the heads and those that they do catch onto generally don't cause any problems. i think that there ae far bigger issues at  hand with the music they listen to. My daughter is almost 10 and is way over anything even remotely benign, even Hilary Duff has gone out the window, now its Black Eyed Peas and the pussycat dolls!!

anyway, back to the issue at hand.. if youre comfortable with them watching and dont feel that its influencing their behaviour at all it's all good. There will always be some do-gooder out there who will tell you that children shouldnt watch such stuff, but the only people you have to please are you and your kids. If you are happy, and they are happy and for the most part polite, respectable children (kids will be kids afterall!) then let them watch happily.!!!!

Quick Question
there'd be a riot in our house if i said no as hubby loves them!!

that said, many of our friends won't let their kids - but many have never watched it themselves.

i draw the line at violence & sex - so that guides our decisions.  there are other shows i worry about more

Quick Question
I think it depends on the episode. My son is 9 and I let him watch most episodes. There are a few however that I think are too mature for him and so we watch something else those nights. I don't think there is a wrong and a right with this, I think you need to use your own discretion as to what you think your own child is able to handle and filter his watching accordingly.

Quick Question

I have let my son watch the simpsons since he was about 4 and apart from the occassional "DOH!" and "BICARUMBA", we have not had any reason not too allow him to watch it. Im not sure if he understands all of the adult bits even tho he knows about the birds and the bees. Personally,  I would be more worried about your child watching video clips with all the bikini clad girls gyrating around the guy looking at him like he is a god.

Quick Question
I think that so long as boundaries are set and discipline is put in place then these shows are fine!
However for the more religious families i wouldn't recommend as it would most certainly raise conflict.
If you teach your child right from wrong though, all will be well!
I would draw the line at south park and family guy though and other such shows with a little more cheek and swearing in them! They are more for adults!

Quick Question

My boy is fifteen months and right now I do not mind him watching such programs ... Because I think right now he is too young to understand the "adult content" those programs might exhibit ... He just likes the colors and the tunes ... at seven years old, I would just watch the content and "restrict" certain episodes if they might be too adult for your little one ... I am very familiar with the two programs you are concerned about and I do not feel either one really ever pushes the bounderies of "adult content" ... Now, your boy might start being bratty like Bart ... hahha ! But other than that I have not seen where those two programs were any threat ... Do you watch "Family Guy" or "American Dad"  ? Now, those programs, although I love them,  do go beyond what a little one should see ... Also, "South Park" is out of the question always for little ones ...

Regarding only  "The Simpsons" and "Futurama" ... well, I have not seen much that a little one should not see on those programs ... So, I think it is okay ... But use your best judgement ... Would not want to expose little ones to anything adult or obscene ...

Quick Question

My son is only 21 months old but I intend to let him watch them both.

I draw the line at The family guy and American Dad though. I find that these ones are really for adults.

I hope this helps.
