Always sleeping

Hi all minti members!

My son is 5 months today. My problem is this. I want to start him on solids(moosh) but he is always sleeping. He has a bottle plays for an hour then is ready for bed again and won't get up until his next feed or sometimes later. I've tried giving him solids first before his bottle but he is too hungry and gets really upset and worked up. Then i tried after his bottle but he is too full. Obviously he wouldn't sleep if he didn't need to so i dont like waking him up. I have a 2 1/2 year old screaming through the house all day and that doesn't even stir him. Any ideas? He is still growing really well. He is a big boy for his age but is he getting enough? Thanks guys.

I agree that since your bub is sleeping and still gaining weight he probably doesn't need solids anyway.

Just to clarify ABA (formally nursing mothers of australia) do not recommend solids before 6 mths. I don't think I have heard anything about them saying not until 12mths. A lot of breastfeeding mothers will say that solids before one are just for fun. Most of the nutrients babies have before one come from b'milk or formula. Some babies will go until 9-10 mths without really getting into solids. My first loved them my second couldn't have cared less and it wasn't until over 7 mths that he finally tried some.

enjoy your baby while you can he'll let you know when he's ready to start.

they dont really eat much solids at this stage at all .. just a few spoons if that .. if you are worried cause hes been waking up hungry try some thicking formula to add to his bottle that should make him more content ,, with the noise you might just be lucky that hes used to noises and can sleep through it for now so thats a blessing that you dont have to tell anybody  to shhh cause your babys sleeping lol , little ones still need lots of sleep also so dont worry yet , hes growing and happy and sounds content also

I don't think his ready quiet yet for solids, baby's wake up during the night and look for more milk after finishing a bottle when there ready to be introduced to solids. Him sleeping all the time, tells me his quiet content. Also how many solid feeds are you starting baby on? Sometimes we can give them to much by mistake, As they only eat a couple of spoonful's at first and you gradually increase the size of each meal one spoonful at a time until they are eating a complete cup.. Same as when you first had him and introduced him to the bottle he probably only ate 30 mils of milk, then 50 mils, then 100, then 150mls then 200mls, you gradually increased the size until baby was sleeping a complete 4 hours. As His tummy needs to stretch gradually in the same way, to accomodate for the extra food. My 5 month old is still sleeping so I'm gonna wait a bit longer and enjoy the peace. Good luck.

Try giving your child the food first before the bottle of milk. See what happens then. Good luck

OMG!!!! To have a baby that sleeps!!! Love it while you can. Many experts (such as Nursing Mothers) say not to even try solids until your baby is 12 months anyway. Usually people start on solids as their baby is NOT sleeping and is hungry. Enjoy the rest while you can before he starts to crawl !!  cheryl

I agree with merle, but if you feel he needs to start on solids, why not give him half a bottle, and then some solids, then once he has eaten some of it give him back his bottle! Its what i used to do with my daughter when she started on solids from 6 weeks old!
