My son loves book we have about 100 but I want to buy him some more. he is nearly 4 so my question is what your kids loved expecialy around his age. or what books you as perents or grandparents found intresting for young kids. I am probably going to buy 10-20 till his birthday and give him few every week.

There is a book group for children and maybe there might be some idea on there.  Just thought it might help you out.

OHH my favourite subject

Little Golden Books are wonderful - my boys had well over 100 of these - some that were mine when I was young.

Dr Zuess books - Fox in Sox was my all time favourite - makes the children laugh.

Disney Classics - Lady and the Tramp, Peter Pan, Snow White - every child should have these.

The boys enjoyed Beatrix Potter - I groaned silently everytime they wanted me to read it.  But I encouraged my boys to make their own literature choices.

Try poetry as well.  Classic Australian was my choice with Banjo Patterson being the boys favourite. I also found some poetry aged for children. Michael Rosen is a great one for kids.

I read bedtime stories to my children till they were about 8 - 10.  It was our quiet time together.  Anna Sewells Black Beauty. JM Barries Peter Pan, and the Narnia Collection. My boys will still listen to me read peotry.

Hi there,

We are the same we have loads of books i think we might even have more than 100! I have two childrwen and they both love books a like even though one of them is only 9 months!

We have started to run out of storage so one of my friends suggested a library, i havent looked back since, you really should try this as it saves you money and you can get up to 10 books a week or even more.

This is great aswell because your child will never get bored because as soon as they have finished them you just go back to return them and get another load, i really do hope you take this up as librarys are wonderful things and save you money and your child getting bored with the same books!

I always found the little golden series to be of sound quality! They have decent sized words for little children, the reading level is not to simple yet not to hard for that of a 4 yr old, and the stories are great....well i used to enjoy them....in fact, i still do!

My kids loved the early reader books or Level 1 books.  They have lots of colorful pictures and often use rhyme and repetition so the kids were able to memorize them and eventually "read" them on their own.  They are great for capitalizing on those early literacy skills!

The best books on the planet ,in my opinion are by Robert Munsh...my kids just loved them!!  My sons favourite was Thomas's Snowsuit.   My favourite  (it still makes me tear up) Love you Forever.  His books have it all, great illustrations, humour, and  lessons all wrapped into one.   I have to say...I'm a little envious, my babies are all grown up now, and I so miss reading them their stories at night before bed. They'd sit on my lap in the rocking chair,  freshly bathed, and I would nuzzle my nose in their hair and breathe in their baby scents ... Where does time go?  Oops sorry....Hope you enjoy my suggestions.  Happy reading!

I love the old fairy tails I still have mine, he likes snowwhithe (my father even got him the snow white gnomes all 8 of them). he has educational books (like colours, shapes numbers) than books on animals, body parts. as well as the "normal books". but as he plays with them every day they become boring to him. thats why I need ideas of books already tried out. there are so many books out there it is amazing.

my husband tells me that with the money I have spend on books I could buy a new car . i think that if your children see you reading (not just reading to them but reading for yourself) they pick up the love for books. my nephew used to ask for books instead of toys and I used to buy a lot for him as well.
