clipping nails

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering how everyone clips their babies finger, and toe nails.  I've been having a problem doing Lyli's nails now because I have always done it when she was sleeping, but now we just lay her down in her crib and she falls asleep on her own.  I have tried to cut them when she is awake but she just pulls her hands away, and she won't stop kicking her legs long enough for me to get at her toe nails. I don't want to cut her trying so if anyone knows a way to do it without a fuss it would help out a great deal.

Thanks Michelle

I do it on the changing table, my husband helps me keep her still. I have nipped her skin once, so now I always have him help me.

I sit Ailish on my knee in the loung facing the t.v. and clip all her nails with adult toe nail clippers (have done since she was tiny as baby nails are so soft and plyable I found they were the only things that actually cut them and didn't just bend them.  I've always done it when she's awake, I could for see a future delema othersise.  I have also if she's in an extremely happy mood have done it sitting her facing me on her change table.  This way is quicker, but if you get them in a squirmy mood it's near on impossible so we mainly do it in the lounge with the tv distracting her.  Just a tip, singing shows like the Wiggles (her fave) are not great for this as they promote movement and clapping lol.

I'd make it a fun and interesting time for your daughter.  Mine is 14 months old, but since she was sitting, I used to take her outside (so she's distracted) and clip the nails out there, she was usually more interested in the trees and I'd get half of the job done before she really noticed.  If she starts getting fidgety or complaining, then show her how you cut yours and 'wow' isn't that exciting?!!  works for me.  good luck!

I usually did my kids nail's when they were sleeping. It worked so much better.   Although I remember giving them a item that was new to them and only give it to them to play with while clipping nails.

Give them a bath first as it softens their nails up  before clipping them.

My son Braden loves to sit on the table while I clip his nails. LOL  ( sometimes it's a matter of picking and choosing your battles with him)
