Battle of the vegetables!

How can I make vegetables more edible for my 19 month old?

He absolutely loves any type of fruit & would eat it 'until it came out his ears'! But, dinner time is a nightmare & I am sick & tired of being hit by 'flying' vegies! Help....  Please!

We make a vege pizza for Jaydee... It varies, but mostly it is wholemeal pita bread for the base, tomato paste, corn, sweet potato, capsicum, and dobs of cheese - like goats of feta if you have it otherwise, just ordinary.  It is sort of our version of the one of the out of the Bindis Kidsfitness dvd.   I have also made it with broccoli and carrot... Just whatever's in the fridge - pizza is a good way to disguise all those veges - plus of  course you can add meat.

It pays to soften the harder veges by boiling/steaming them for a short time first.  Also, when they are all cut up and ready to put on, it is fun for them to help.

Try Tomato sauce. I just read in the sunday paper that tomato sauce has more good stuff in it than you would ever get out of eating a tomato. Also salmon is full of the same vitimins and minerals thats in veg. Mabey try raw veg too. My 6 year old and 22 month old only eat raw broccily cabbage, caulieflower and carrot. And i put grated cheese in mash spud, that seems to be a real hit in our house. Strawberries are one of the highst fruits with vits and minerals. corn on the cob is a fav too. Oh and spinich with melted cheese and bacon parcels, just wrap spinich leaf in alfoil and cook in the oven, with all the cheese and bacon inside you can even put corn inside too.

Hmmm I dripped tomato sauce on a jumper once, left it on our boat, then when I remembered it, and went to wash it a week later - the acid in it had made a hole in the jumper... Home made might be good, however bought ones often have a lot of sugar in them.

Alexa is 14 months and the same way!! Lately I've been mixing them in with like color foods that she likes.  Cooking both together so the veggies get some of the flavor of the food.  Sometimes she notices and picks them out and other times she gobbles it all up without noticing.
Corn in with Macaroni and cheese
Carrots in with Ravioli
She is now doing better and I've ventured into different colors and she is still eating the veggies.  Last night I did peas in with stroganoff and she ate it all!  I think the mixing of the flavors helps a lot!

lol, i am so with you on this one, my little girl is the same....will eat fruit till it makes her sick, but when it comes to veges, it is a real struggle. There for a while she was eating great! I used to put a variety of colour on her plate, then reward her if she at all of her dinner....but then she stopped it and just wanted the reward. So i sometimes just give her a salad now or a banana with some yoghurt....as a banana in itself is a complete food (meaning you can live off bananas because of the amount of vitamins and nutrients they have)
I am also sorry i couldn't provide you with any methods to get your toddler to eat veggies, but sometimes hearing from others personal experiences is just as good!

I used to make my own baby food..just puree it in a blender.  I don't know how old your baby is, but to get my kids to eat veggies/meat  I would add a little pasturized  honey  into the puree.  I just disguised the taste, or I would scoop the veggies then a little bit of fruit at the end of the spoon so they'd taste the fruit first.  Eventually , when they ate what we  we ate for supper, I made a lot of carotts and turnip, .all sweet veggies, and would mash them up with butter, and mix them with the mashed potatoes.   They had to have three bites of everything on their plate before they got desert .  I made their servings very small, so it wouldn't overwhelm them  and would give them the odd spoonful myself.   Finally, just to be sure,   they had a multi chewable vitamin with breakfast, ( with iron) to make sure they were getting what they needed.  Ultimately though, they get their fibre from their cereal, and vitamins from the fruit, so it should be okay.

I'm with you on this one. At about 18 months, my son became picky over night (he used to eat anything that we put in his mouth when he was a baby!).  Now my son is 22 months and now picky about everything, except fruits. It's a real frustration for me and my hubby and we're to a point that we are worrying about him. He eats doesn't eat much meat, so I'm having to give him protein via milk and cheeses. Then the foods that he does eat, he eats depending on the planets' allignment or something.

Anyway, my husband and I have finally resorted to multi-vitamins for toddlers.

Sorry I don't have any useful info on how to get your child to eat veggies, just sharing my experiences and wanting to let you know you're not alone!
