Why the need?????????????

I am finding it hard to understand why we need to rate peoples picture. Why would someones baby get two thumbs up and then someone elses gets only one. Really who would rate someones baby at all. I think this website is complicating the real reason why we are here and as a result people are getting upset and losing focus of the real issues at hand.

I just don't know what there is to gain from this system, except negative feelings.Minti gives parents and gardians etc from all walks of life to opportunity to optain information from various sources of experiencef rom all over the world. Lets not make this into a site that is trivialised by gimicky extras.

Why the need?????????????
I must admit I don't like it and I don't see the need. I would prefer that my photos only appeared in my blog and on my home page where I put them. I don't really want them in the gallery.
At least with the voting it is thumbs up so there are no negative votes, but personally I would rather not have my photos voted on. I have started blogging on another site where I can post photos without them appearing in a 'whole site photo gallery'. I still put text blogs on Minti but I put my new photos on the other site.

Interesting point.
Good point, I never thought of that. But as Clay said, I think its a great idea when it comes to doing a particular search for something. Maybe we should pay more attention to tagging photos than rating them, just so nobody gets offended?

I dont vote on how cute the baby is I vote I just love the photos and I look because they make me lough and because I love kids and photos personaly I have over 4500 pictures at home, so to see so many pictures at the same place at random it great as I dont have to individualy go to every person on minti to look at their picture this way I have better chance to see everyone

thanks for bringing this point up.
we are taking in everyone's view point.

Our desire is to be able to rank photo's for searches, based on quality so that people can quickly find a good photo of what they are looking for is they are pressed for time.

My question is to all our members... if we dont use voting - how will we achieve this? Interested in your views.

Also: Maybe you see no need to rank photos in the search results. Let me know what your view is here also.

Thanks
Clay

If you think of it this way the 1 or 2 thumbs up are both suppodt to be viewed as positive. There is no negative voting in that.
If you dont like the photo section its simple. DONT GO THERE.
I love just pressing random and seeing what pics come up.
Its not a baby rating comp as its not just babies that come up!

I love to see everyones photos, but do not see the NEED to vote on a picture. There are plenty of other areas we can rate/vote. I just feel this area could be left as free and fun as it should be. Yes we are all very different and I speak up with the view that some people may find it distressing but unable to epress it. Some people are EXTEMELY competitive and I feel this aspect over rides the joy we get from seeing other peoples pictures.I realise that there are other sorts of pictures but that is besides the point. Do we really need to critique a photos quality either as it is not a competition.

Just let this area be fun and random...

Its not all babies in the photo section  ,theres alot of others photos there .I can't put pictures up of my family as i have't any on my computer   as i have no cermera .

i go there  to look thuogh as i enjoy looking at photos ,you don't have to vote or leave a comment .Some photos even bring back merories of your kids when they  were young or when you use to thing as a kids (like lying on the grass watching the clouds go by)

So everyone has thier  reason going there to the photo section ,its there to enjoy ,not just to vote or comment

It's not that Minti wants US to vote on other peoples babies. They are just there so people can look at them. You can vote if you want to. Leave a comment if you want to. It's ALL UP TO YOU in the end. I love looking at others picutres and it's NOT all babies in there.

I have no real need for the photo gallery, but perhaps it would be good if it was full of photos related to (and linked to) advice that has been written. Then I would find it more useful and I would happily place a comment and vote on the 1000 words the photo adds to the advice.
As for proud parent and baby photos, some people like them but I would rather see cute or funny photos here that could not be misused.

I agree. I don't see the point in rating photos, be it for the quality or the subject. People can say its for the quality, but in reality it isn't.

Personally I don't understand why we need a browsable gallery at all. But I am one of those people that wouldn't put a photograph of my child on the internet if you paid me to. Too many weirdos out there that steal photos of kids and do sick things to them. *shudders*

Can see your point but maybe its not about "rating babies", maybe its more about "rating photos". Let's face it some pictures are simply better than others because they capture a moment, are clear and focused and full of life. Others may be staged, blurry and drab - its not about the subject, its about the picture and its quality.

Ok I get it now. still wouldn't be nice to see 1 thumbs up next to your child rather than 2.  I have a dodgy camera and photos are often blurry because she is moving so fast in most of them, and it just isn't clear.  Comments would be better, it's a little more positive.

if i could, i would vote two thumbs up on all the baby/kiddy photos, but it would take days LOL!
maybe if we could comment only? i think thats a better thing to do...
i love commenting on pictures! its better than rating.

Maybe that's something to alert the team behind-the-scenes to, I don't think it's necessary to put ratings on babies. Babies are beautiful and innocent no matter what they look like or what they doing. Even when a baby is screaming its head off, there is still that beautiful innocence to the child that should never be 'graded' in any way.

I agree 100%. I find it rather upsetting that minti would want us to "vote" for other peoples babies!
Minti is meant to be filled with positivity, but lately has been filled with nothing but negativity!
What's the go with these extras?
