am i feeding my baby enough?

First time mum here... My little boy is 7 months old and has been on solids for 5 weeks. He wakes at about 4 am for a breast feed, (it used to be 6am). Next is stewed fruit at 7am and a BF, then a BF at 10am, solid lunch at 1pm and a BF, then a BF at 4pm, followed by vegies for dinner at 6pm followed by  a final BF then bed by 7pm. That's 6 BF's + each solid meal is at least 150 grams. I can cope with the early morning wake up but after each solid meal he cries and screams till i put him on the breast, after which he is often quite grizzly and never used to be when he was breast fed only. Is this common? I have tried offering water after solid feeds but he does not settle. Just hope i'm not doing too much wrong as he does like his food (woofs it down) and is a good healthy weight. Any advice or similar experience would be greatly appreciated.

I go by the general rule that if a child is content and alert and active, then you are doing nothing wrong. The child must be getting enough food and enough sleep and enough love to be all those things. I would say you are right on track, and it's natural to question everything you are doing as a first time mum.  Keep up the good work!

I had the same problem with my pig of a boy aka kyle

don't worry you are doing great just keep giving your little boy the boob if he wants  soon he will get better at settling  good luck and keep up the good work.

Sounds like he's eating plenty. My son was the same way... some babies sleep through the night when given solids, but mine never did until he was about 12 months old.

At 7 months, in my opinion, breastmilk should be the main source of nutrition. So what I have done at this stage was to nurse first, and then wait an hour or so to give solid food. If the breastfeeding slows down, I back down on the solids (give less at each feeding, or eliminate one solid feeding).

I suggest to try nursing first, as was already suggested and see if things change for you.

Good luck!

Breastmilk is still the most important part of your baby's diet. Have you thought about reversing what you do - give a breastfeed first and then solids after? There is no hurry to increase the solids in baby's diet - it will happen.

he is definelty getting plenty of food, have you tried giving him some baby juice after his meals, maybe that will help to stop him from wanting a BF after his meals, and your not doing anything  wrong remember your his mum you know whats best, however i do remmeber when i first put sienna on solids she was the same not settled until she had a bottle afterwards so what i did was try to cut them down first to 120ml, then to 60 ml then eventually out of one meal replacing it with juice then eventually the rest after she was used to the juice i swapped it to water, she now has 1 bottle in the morning, then breakfast, then morning tea then lunch then a bottle, then tea and then a bottle before bed. good luck i hope i have helped you out a bit Brittxx

Babies know how much they need to eat at that age.  If your little man wants the breast after a meal, I say give it to him.  I fed my daughter on demand and she's now 15 months old and a healthy size and weight.  Just relax and let him guide you.
