i am 24 weeks pregnant with my 1st child, I had my first antinatel appointment at 14weeks, and ive had to go back 3 times(which ive had to make the appointments myself) at 17weeks they told me to come back when i was 34 weeks! since to as ive had to have 3 ultrasounds as they havnt been able to see all of the babys heart. Now when ive gone in there they have only done the urine test and weighed me the on the 1st visit. I just had to make another appointment to go back to get another form for another ultrasound, and they gave it to me, and told me to come back when im 34weeks. Now Ive been told im ment to see them every 4 weeks until im 28 weeks, But when ive gone in they've told me to come back no sooner then 10 weeks, and they are not checking anything.. urine test and weight ect.. is this normal or am i being ignored?
omg what is this hospital doing to u yes u are suppose to go every 4 weeks untill 28 and and then evey two weeks after that i think u should look into a different hospital i dnt understand this hospital thius shouldnt be happening to you u should be getiing the right care
gezzzzzzzzzzzzzz where about are you ,, what are they in the stone age !!!!!!!!!!
that just doesnt sound right at all ...i would go somewhere else and tell them all you have been through so they will check things out again from scrap
can you go to your docto get a referal to a differnt hospital .. im very curious to where u are for them to treat things this way with you . if its your doc then go get another one that is only recomended by the hospital if its the hospital treating you like this then go to your doc and get that referal to another hospital ,, your doc also should be able to look for the heart beat with his equiptment he has in his surgery.. all the best
wow your in oz and they are treating you like that, you need a new doc... i remember with both my bubs i had to go once a month until 28 weeks and then 1/fortnight till 34 and then every week until the end. i also had blood/urine/baby heart and weight tests at each visit and 2 ultrasounds during the preganancies... ten weeks is a huge gap between prenatal visits yep i'd look for another doc or better yet a birthing clinic that does it all.
this sounds unusual, my daughter is 10 months and i recall when i was pregnant i went for my first antenatal at 4 weeks, unltrasound at 7 weeks (had problems nearly lost her but usually it is 12 weeks first scan) and i had to go back every 4 weeks until i was about 28 weeks and then it was every 2 nd week, and then when i got to 36 weeks it was every week oh and my second unltrasound was at 19 weeks, i would ask them as this sounds very odd to me as my sister is pregnant with her second child due in 4 weeks and is still the same system as when i was pregnant with sienna. good luck and congrats on your pregnancy. Brittxx
forgot to add, every time i went in for an appointment my urine was tested, was weighed and babies heartbeat checked and asked the usual question how feeling etc.
oh and i did have blood tests on first visit and i think it was either 24-28 weeks i had my glucose test as well sorry just want to give you a bit of input on how you should be being treated because i don't think you are
this does sound strange..i recall having regular 4 weekly visits then 2 weekly visits and right at the end i was there every week.. i had two very dufferent lots of antenatal care, one throught a team of midwives at the JOhn HUnter hospital in NEwcastle .. which was fabulous.. and the other through my obstetrician.. who worked in conjunction with a midwife... with the team of midwives at the John Hunter.. i was weighed and had my urine tested at every visit... with the OB i wasnt weighed at all, and my urine wasn't tested before 26-28 weeks..while their care differed.. it was regular, and thorough regarding ultrasounds and blood tests etc.. it sounds to me like youre being given the run around, not only is regular consistent care necessary.. as a first time mum ( and a second and third and fourth) its exciting to see the growth of your unborn baby, and the changes happening to your body.. personally, i think that you should speak up and let them know tat you are not happy with the care you are receiving.. often pregnant ladies are too afraid to speak up in defense of themslves.. but honestly... if your concerned.. dont be embarrassed or afraid.. speak up...best of luck for theremainder of your pregnancy xoxo
That sounds a bit strange. I had to see my gp every 4 weeks then 2 weeks then weekly. Every time my urine test was done and weight ,baby's heartbeat plus measurements. I only had 3 antinatal app. though and the 3rd was when I was overdue. I choose to see my doctor instead of going to the hospital as there it was 5 hours for each appointment. Your gp should be able to refer you for all the tests and your probably better to see your gp instead.
i would like to know where you are from as i am in australia and ther eis no way that midwives and obstratisions can treat you like this. you should be visiting the midwives every four weeks for the first and second trimesters and two weeks in half of you third trimester then every week until you have the baby that is really rediculous and also they are supposed to check everything over with you and your baby to make sure you are both healthy, the other lady is right you should stand up for your rights and if you don't want to do it in case you get stressed get someone to do it for you. i am appalled by it don't let them think that you don't know anything cause it is your first you know your body and you tell them. or if you need more advice invest in a pregnancy mag i did with my first and i read it like it's my bible and i am on to my 4th pregnancy. so good luck and i hope you have no worries in the future weeks of your pregnancy.
Ok this information is taken from 'Information for Expectant Mothers' at RDH
Frequency of visits:
Every 4 weeks until 28 weeks
Every two weeks from 28-36 weeks
Every week from 36 weeks until delivery.
Blood tests are taken on the initial visit, at 28 weeks and 36 weeks.
I'm sorry but i don't remember much about the glucose test except it was really yuck - very very sweet. I had mine in the morning and went to a Gribbles? pathology where they took my blood and then I had my appointment at the hospital later with no problems.
Can I ask who are you seeing? GP, midwives or doctors at the hospital?
I also had to make all my own arrangements. The thing i would recommend is to make all your appointment in the morning as close to 9.00am as possible as that way you don't have to wait hours to be seen.
I know how you feel> I had to have lots of ultra sounds with Laura. They would make me wait 1 hr or so with a full bladder. Then they would tell me to empty half of my wee as Iwas too full !!!! I mean how the heck are you supposed to empty half with the lady just outside. Stand up to them and ask them why they are mucking you around. If you need to take someone with you to speak for you do so. Not that I mean that rudly just that it is hard enough being pregnant without having to rattle some cages. Good luck Jen
Doesn't sound right to me
In UK you get seen every 4 weeks then it drops to every 2 weeks finally every week
Blood pressure and urine always checked as this usually first detects any problems, also checked is babys heartbeat and the size of your uterus to check you are growing at the correct pace
I would be very concerned that I wasn't being taken proper care of if I was you
You do need regular check ups
xxxx
Also they told me to go to my normal GP at 32 weeks to have a glucose test, and i went to the dr and told him i have to book it in, but he said that i cant have it done there i have to go to pathology, and its ment to be done at 28 weeks and that I still cant do it unless im given the Form for it, when they didnt give me!
Sorry Hon
But someone is giving you the run around, I can't think it is right that you have to do all this, everything was always done for me I was just told where to turn up and when
