Does anyone else get annoyed - A minti question

Hi guys . . . . I keep writting articles . . . and then they get reported for the most silly things . . then they get voted ok and then suddenly they are reported for the same things again . . .

Did you know that if you use the V word for a girls private spot it gets reporte but if you say penis it's ok . . .

Does anyone else think this is double standards???????????????

would love to know what you guys all think and before you say this is not a parenting question it is?? It's related to some important parenting advice that i am trying to get out there

I am feeling so frustrated  . . . . Cheers Kellz

Ok the auto report words are there for a good reason. Yes it may be annoying that your advice gets reported for words like vag1na and  p3nis but im sure you would all be more annoyed if someone posted porn for all to see because that system wasnt in place...

I am surprised that the P word should make it through - also we can remove rude words if you think they are inappropriate for a parenting site so feel free to PM me with a list of words you think should NOT be on our rude word list - we would like to make the experience positive and certainly do not have any hidden and unbalanced agenda !

That's a bit weird. The P word is on the "rude word" list.  I'll put that on the bug list.

The Rude Word list can be found here (just scroll down to the bottom).

When I first became a member, I put a poem on and it was reported because it was not advice, at that time I didn't know about blogging! Often I have read the reported advice and have commented on how petty I feel it is to report people for using certain words! After all we are all adults here aren't  we! More people with nothing better to do than  scan comments for words that they don't approve of just to be able to report someone!

I would say the  female genitalia " V " is censored and not the male genitalia " P " word is because....speaking from a pornagraphic point of view....the little boys are naugthier than little girls..lol, so when they may type in the "v " word it must give you more explicit pics etc, compared to the males. Common sense tells you more women post on the net for guys to perve at,and make money from it.... but that's just my observation.

I'm sure I have used a few words in this statement to make me reported.....

As I understand it, the list of reported questions are there so that any advice put by a spammer trying to put inappropriate content on minti will be caught.  I don't quite know how the list of words got put together, but for whatever reason, maybe male genitalia isn't usually found in those inappropriate sites.  Just a thought.

Clay or Matthew (can't remember which) put the list of words that are instantly reportable somewhere here on minti (if I can find it I'll put the link in).

The main thing is, don't worry if you get reported for a word, it's only done to allow a real person to verify it's what it should be and not something inappropriate.  I say put your parenting advice that you want to write out there.  Don't worry about it being reported, because it will be out of purgatory soon enough.

Too true! I have been reported for using words that aren't even rude - like war and slavery (oops i'll probably get banned) but it is generally cleared pretty quickly and they are back online!

I'll disagree with that.  Minti is an accessible site to anyone that has access to the internet, and it is even accepted by the Education Department's strict filters (which makes it very rare and special as most forum type sites are blocked) so your children could see all this at school if they had the time and inclination!

Then there is also the problem that not everyone is well educated, some people are very sensitive, and some are downright gullible.  Without the database, Minti would be bombarded with all manner of inappropriate material, from terrorist related activities to pornography, and everything in between... and I sure as heck don't want to be constantly having to see and report that sort of crud. I'd rather have all my advice reported by a database designed to reduce the likelyhood of it happening.

I'm all for the database, though I will admit, I think it is a bit lame that vagina is picked up on but penis isn't.  Maybe the Admin/techies might want to look into finding a way to edit the list as needed for these sorts of inconsistancies??? After all, new terms are being invented all the time, we wouldn't want to get outdated now would we?

Yes i would say its douldle side when you put that way  , they are both parts of the boby  and no one should be afened by thoses words  use in the right contexts.

So i don't fine a problem with it   unless they just want us to use privates part to explain  what we are talking about

Yes that is double standards and I would like to know what guidelines the Minti system uses to define a bad word. I think if you are using medical terms rather then slang then it should be ok, thats the guidelines I use when voting on a word violation and I know that I can't speak for other Minti members but I'm sure other members feel the same, as long as a word is used in context then you don't have to worry about advice being withdrawn.

What else are we supposed to call it? The black hole of calcutta. We try to teach kids the correct names and yet the v word is offensive. You could always call it a micky flip like my 9 yr old! Shows you that the world has progressed as far as we would like. Jen xx

I've never used them to have them reported, but I do find it... amusing I suppose, that a word most people say we should be encouraging our kids to use instead of other more childish terms is a word that gets reported here. We are all mostly adults (aren't we?), and so long as either word is being used in a legitimate context then what is the problem? It's not a dirty word, it's a part of the female anatomy. I'd rather call it what it is.

I think it is double standards also. It's just not fair. Some things do get reported for no reason sometimes.

oh yes i no what you mean a friend of mine said bloody well ok that might offend other countries but here in australia its a aussie word now,the v and the p word ,well we all have atleast one so it should not be an issue ok swearing but those 2 words arn't its very strange maybe someone should put out a list of words that you cannot use so when people put questions up (and it takes the ages to write it)they don't use the v word and other words if that makes sense(sorry if i don't make sense played tennis today in 40 brain fried lol)
