Mosquitoes

We have a huge mossie problem and it is making it very difficult for the kids to play outside.  My baby looks like she has chicken pox.  Does anyone have any child-friendly solutions??

Long & loose sleeves & legs for your older kid's clothes... Weighted mosquito net for bubby. Sadly the best repellants are not baby-friendly. There are various plants that may act as a deterrent but the effect won't be enuff to protect a a baby's delicate (succulent) skin. Having said that; when I was in the tropics I did put dabs of neat citronella oil on my toddler at night... w/ no ill-effects. But it isn't recommended.

There is a product your pest controller can put around your yard called "webzone" it is used in kindys and daycares so is safe around kids. Last time I looked into it it was $110 you'll just have to check with them how often to get it redone (I think it depends on rain etc int he area). I like this idea better as yiou don't have to put stuff on the kids everytime. My local daycare can't afford it so they put a mix of babyoil and dettol on the kids it seems to work OK.

Mossie coils. citronella candels, Bug zappers and this aromatherapy combination to wipe onto your childs skin: 3 drops citronella, 2 drops cedarwood, 2 drops of peppermint, 3 drops of lavendar, 10 drops of essential oil solubiliser, 50ml of water. Hope this helps

Here in Australia Aeroguard makes a special insect repelliant and sunscreen in one for children. I think it may be called Aeroguard for kids. It's good on sensitive skin and has a pleasent smell. I remeber it being in supermarkets and chemists. If they still get bitten Sudocream is the best thing to get rid of the itch. I know I use it on my hives.

Good luck!

Apart from using insect repellant...when me or my son ( both being mosquito magnets )

I use this new nappy rash cream which is suitable for burns and bites called

"Sudocrem " made by " Heinz"  BabyBasics

In Australia, it's in  a grey tub and sold in most pharmacies as well as any dept store in the baby isle...eg: Target, Kmart, Babyco..etc

I hope this has helped.....
