Has anyone else's kids here had that cough that is going around that just wont go away? My kids have had it for 2 or 3 wks now and it just wont bugger off!!! Took em to the dr yesterday and because he didnt cough during the 10mins that we were in the doctors surgery for, he looked at me as if I was a hypocondriac and said theres nothing wrong and just go home and take some cough medicine. Well hello!!! He has been and its still not working!!!
They was taking Brondecon Expectorant at first and now they are taking Dura-tuss forte and still no luck. Anyone got any suggestions? Jaryds getting so bad that he is having trouble catching his breath after a coughing attack and actually threw up the other night from it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Call me old-fashioned if you like... I don't have much faith in Drs.
Eucalyptus oil in an oil diffuser in the bedroom might help. Lots (& I mean lots) of garlic added to the cooking can make a difference too. Good old Vicks vapo-rub on the chest & back. And a good strong tincture of Echinacea from the health food shop.
My experience is that Drs treat mothers like we're neurotic idiots from when we are pregnant with our eldest child until our youngest turns 21. Women Drs are sometimes better.
hey you know the lemon and honey thing, do you just put it in hot water like a cup of tea? id let it cool down & stuff. just wondering how to make it. ta.
Boil some water, Pour boiling water into a mug, add the lemon juice and stir in two teaspoons of honey. Yes let it cool for your little one - should still be warm.
If he doesn't like drinking it. Try a spoon full of honey, pour a little lemon juice over it, then heat it over the stove till hot. Let it cool down - especially if you used a metal spoon (ouch).
Hi my son has had a cough for about 8 weeks now, I have taken him to the doctor 4 times and first she said allergies, and then astma, then she said post naisal drip, so I dont no, but he is still coughing. Let me no what happens maybe it will be helpfull for my son to, take care and I hope it goes away.
I just a question - are the kids asthmatic. My eldest had mild asthma which started at about 2 years old and manifested itself as a persistent cough (sounded like a dog barking) and sometimes this would make him throw up. I sought advice and was told to put him on Vitamin A tablets (he was only 4, so it was quarter of a table). The cough cleared up, he was taken off his asthma medication (after about 2 months), and has never suffered again. Check with your doctor before doing this to make sure there are no pre-existing conditions that could be a problem.
hi ryan had a persistent cough for almost a month kept taking him to the doctors and the doctor kept saying that his chest was fine ryan suffers febrile convulsoinds and only because of this fact he was treated second course of antibiotics and nothing on the third course he gave him something stronger and thankfully it worked......keep persisting dont let them feel like you are a hypocondriac they are your children and you have every right to be concerned.....
Hey Mony, A Professor named Frank Oberklaid writes for coles baby mag(he is at the Royal Childrens Hospital in Melbourne) and has written in this months mag about cough's and colds here is what he had to say: Most coughs and colds are caused by virus infections and are short lived some coughs however can hang around for weeks no active treatment is required. Many Paediatricians are worried that medications are used to freely.Antibiotics do not help and most medicene you can buy over the counter have not been shown to be any benefit and may have serious side effects. Cough medicenes do not shorten the course of the illness and may also have harmful side effects.Such things as paracetamol or ibuprofen can reduce fever and make the child more comfy. He goes on to write a full article. Hope this helps you some hon.

Hey hunny, get a second opinion it sounds like it could be bronchitis which will need antibiotics to get rid of it. I have had it before and the cough was gone with the end of the antibiotics course
