Good for you Britt, i agree you have to be firm but also be respectful this is your husbands mother. I had lots of trouble with mil, but i firmly told her in a very nice voice every time that the times had changed since she had children and we didn't really do things that way anymore. She understood but i think its a mothers instinct to mother both the son and daughter in law, she thinks she is trying to help..we don't see it that way. Goodluck

or even better still it might not be as harsh if it comes from your partner to tell her to butt out on things also , that way u wont feel like the bad daughter in law

time to talk ,, invite her over or go out for coffee and just tell her while  u  might appreciate

her input on things that you will do it your way and say to her i hope i dont offend you about this etc,, try the nice approach see where the conversation leads

that is a tough one i literally had to tell my MIL in no uncertain terms to butt out, i had tried to get my husband to do it, i had tried to tell her politley i had tried to drop hints, and let me tell you she was getting the message seh was just choosing to ignore, anyway one day i got absolutley sick of it she crossed the line when she sat down and told me that my husband and i couldn't have another child until sienna was two. well that was it for me i sat her down and said to her in a more then calm voice iam sorry jenny but not you or anyone else will tell me when i can have my next child i will have it when iam ready and not when you or anyone else tells me iam allowed. i layed everything else i was concerned about on the table and felt so much better, sure it was uncomfortable that day but the next time she came round everything was fine and now she respects me and the way i do things with sienna. Good luck but my advice would be tell her straight. hope i have helped out a bit brittxx
