PALPITATIONS

Hi all. When I was pregnant with my last child I used to get real bad heart palpitations. In fact my heart would race up to about 200 beats per minute. My doctors did heaps of tests but couldn't figure out what was wrong. After bub was born they disappeared. My doctor would put me on a beta blocker via drip to try to slow it down and wanted me to take these pills but I declined(they had some dangerous side effects for bub) Now that I'm pregnant again my heart has started going all funky again, I really don't want to have to take these pills though. Has anyone else had this problem or know of any other ways to fix it? Any help would be much appreciated.

You should see a cardiologist.  The pills would help to slow the palpitations (arrythmia).  There is a procedure to eliminate the problem.  Well, at least to find the problem and attempt to eliminate.  It is known as electrophysiology study (to identify the problem) and radiofrequency ablation (to stop/try to stop the arrythmia).  Always go the least invasive approch first.  Try the pills, might be enough.  And there are side effects to drugs but also with this procedure.  It would depend on what the arrythmia is as to what they can and cannot treat.  But see a cardiologist.

By the way, where are you located?  I used to work in a cardiac cath lab where they do the EP/RFA.

Yes I do, although mine has a name its called Tachycardia, I was monitored with all my pregnancies.  I was diagnosed with this when I was 6 so I have dealt with it all my life, Im not saying you have the same thing but to control it I take a vitamin called K-magnesium, its not just magnesium it has to be K-magnesium, I rarely have a problem.  So you can try that you can get it from the health shop.  I used to take beta blockers but a I found them dangerous and b they really did nothing except stop the attack I was having, but this vitamin has decreased the amount of times I get the palpitations.

Don't take anything until you talk to your cardiologist!  What works for one arrythmia may not work and in fact can be bad for another.  Talk to your doctor before taking anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
