You sound just like me and what a battle field it can be.  I had the Dore represenative at my house.  Yes I agree with the principal behind their programme but the price was questionable.  Don't get me wrong, i would sell my house to help my son but my husband said that $4973.00 was too much for what they had to offer and to research it more.  Yes I was desperate so I jumped the gun on the Dore thing.  I have researched everyday for a week now and have found this web site called Learning Breakthrough Programme.  It's 10% of Dore and the same principal.  The e-mails that this company have sent me have been nothing but supportive.  It's important that you click on all the tabs..particularly the Dore comparison .  I also have just put my son (12) on Eye Q fish oil.  Research also the benefits of Omega 3 and 6 in this concentrated formula.  Everyone like the teachers are quick to label a child but by giving that label to the child it directly falls upon the parents shoulders to take action.  Believe me we are going there right now.  Please let me know what you think.

Have you ordered the Learning Breakthrough Program?

Sounds very good, have been reading the website, and its a fraction of Dore.

Also with the fish oil capsules, how do you get your child to take them?  My 9yo son will not take any medicine without a fight...he can have a toothache which leaves him crying, but refused to take Panadol.  Hes been like this since he was 4yo, stubborn as a mule...lol.

I got the liquid last year, but he spat it out, even in juice he could taste it.

He has been tried on Dex, Ritalin, Ritalin La, all worked okay for 2 weeks, then the highs, lows, set in.

Hes currently on Tofranil because he had extreme anxiety late last year, and wouldnt go to school.  10mg in the morning, seems to help his anxiety, but his behaviour/innattention is still unmanageable.  :(

Alternative ADHD treatments

Hi

Firstly let me say this is ONLY my own personal experience. My son too has ADHD, he was diagnosed at aged 6. I had too heard of the fish oil therapy. I approached my sons peadiatricain about  this and he said Omega 3 treatment would work the same as current ADHD meds providing they had the equivalent of a bucket load per day. Also depends on the severity of the condition. My son is on meds - Ritalin. It worked absolute wonders and Ill never look back. My soon was a different child, more attentive, behaviour became controllable and social skills blossomed. We also tried playing with additives in his diet - nothing worked and I wished we had of medicated sooner. Again everyone is different some are for meds some arent. PERSONALLY the meds were wonderful. Highly controlled and he began on the minimal dose until we saw results. The stigma of ADHD meds is all too looked at as a last resort, I cant recommend it more highly

Check out this link www.fedup.com.au it has all sorts of stuff about the FAILSAFE diet that I have used but is supposed ot work wonders for ADHD kids. I also give my son Fish oil tablets (the kids smart ones- I found little squirts didn't work as well adn eye Q's were too expensive).  I have automatically started giving my youngest son them since he turned 1. theres nothing in there that can harm any kids and it has worked wonders on both of their attention spans. Also if you can afford it there is the DORES program but it is really costy but an Occupational therapist can pretty much develop an activity/exercise/concetnration game plan that can work as well.

hope this helps

We gave Fish Oil Capsules
We took all 'E' numbers out of his diet
Orange Juice was a complete no no for him
No foods at all with preservatives
No 'Junk' Food only good wholesome balanced diet
Exercises on working to a constant routine
Lists everywhere of what he had to do and at what times so he could follow the times
Only one instruction at a time, as in if you say go to your room, open the curtains, put your shoes on they will only remember one thing or nothing
Constant Praise and Reassurance
Writing Exercises for holding the pen properly
Ball co ordination games
Right and Left memory games
Concentration clapping games

Hope this helps

I'm afraid I still had to medicate but its always best to try everything else first

When you look at ingredients on any edible product you will find lists of numbers such as
E 471
E 445
E 211
E 104
You can always find them on sweets and chocolates too
All these E numbers are preservatives and lots of children with ADHD ADD etc are allergic to all these additives so exclude them from their diet. It made a huge difference to me but not enough to stop the meds. But certainly worth trying it does usually make a significant change

my twins both have add and ocd .one more than the other with this they have had alot of learning problems , i did try to medicate one of my twins but just didnt like what it did to him ,,, the specialist also cost me awhole lot of money to keep going to them,,

i put my boys in sport that helped to calm them down alot  they couldnt go to group sport as they used to get way to frustraited so i put them in kung fu etc, it helped them to focus concentrate, now they are 15 they go to kickboxing three times a week and come home calmer i also changed their diet  as in no junk no red cordial no green cordial , i was lucky that my boys love their vegies

they are 15 now and the ocd can been seen more in the way that they are  very anxious about the dark and areas in the house washing hands ,, they are still slow learners also  , i also have them on amega fish oil ..

i had a great book on diets but lent it to a friend and never got it backkkk ,,, aghhhhhhhhh

its great the other ladys going to tell you what book to get ..

not all children with add and adhd cant cope in group sports just mine couldnt

ADHD can be treated with diet and exercise. Try to avoid foods that have a lot of preservatives.  we went through this with my brother unfortunately it did not work for him and we had to medicate.  I have a book called the natural approach to Attention Deficit disorder (ADD) the natural way to treat the roots of this epidemic. It is written by Ronald L. Hoffman, MD see if you can pick it up from a book store.
