i was wondering if any one else has problems with thier babies solids, my son is 10 months old this coming wednesday and can only tolerate pureed foods still, i have tried him with mashed food, lumpy foods and he just gags and vomits it up, so i have to puree all his food still, it is starting to boher me as my other two boys had no roblems with texture in foods.
Thanks guys for all your input on this question as my baby is exactly the same, i was worried as he has no problem eating finger foods but wont eat anything else other than his pureed food, he is a chubby litle thing and im certainly not worried about his weight, but was advised by my health visitor that with every meal give him a bottle and then juice the rest of the time
Your baby is still very young to be eating textured food. It sounds like your other babies were very advanced to be able to start so early rather than that this little one is late. My son barely tolerated anything but pureed food and sometimes not even that until he was well over 12 months old. He had a very strong tongue thrust reflex and some foods would just not go down even as he got older. He found texture much harder to tolerate than taste. As long as he can get pureed food down he will still put on weight and develop. He probably just needs a bit longer to mature in this area and is certain not unusual . (By the way - my son is now 17 and eats just about everything that is not nailed down .... not tolerating solids 10 months is definitely not an indication that he will have problems in the future!)
just thought id add that my girlfriend little boy is about the same age and has had the same thing plus a few others like sounding gurgly all the time and coughing after bottles and food(almost like flem) turns out he has an under developed oesophegus. so its a bit smaller than it should b they dont think its anything to worry about jus that they need to b careful that his food not too lumpy or he has trouble and chokes and gags and some food and bottles take him a little while to go down properly hence the flemy cough sound. maybe if u concerned u could ask ur dr about it?
hey there,
i have to agree with what everyone else has said!
all babies are different and will tolerate things in their own good time!
Perhaps your little boys food may need to be pureed for a little longer if he is finding it hard to chew/ swallow. Or if you do not want to keep pureeing the food, perhaps try giving him smaller amounts on the spoon!
Also, if he has only a couple of teeth, it may be alot harder for him to tolerate!
My daughter was about 11 months before she could have reasonably lumpy/ chunky food!
I hope this has helped! Good Luck.
I have to agree, all babies are different. My girls started solids at 5mths but like you i mashed or pureed everything, you will find to start with they might not be ready for solids but give it another month or so and he might be ready then, also if you can, get a hold of a book called breast, bottle and bowel by Anne Hills and Penelope Stone. This book is great for babies it tells you what they should be having when, it also deals with teething and gives you recipe's that are quick and simple. The book ranges from birth to age 5. Goodluck and keep on trying you'll get there.
from my experience, i think you shouldnt rush him to change to solids. how many teeth does he have? all babies are different, so keep trying and when he's ready he'll start. B
