Hi I have just had a horrible morning. My 9mth baby managed to crawl under the security gate, and tubbled down the stairs. I saw most of it as I couldn't get the stupid gate open. Absoloutly frantic raced to Dr and all seems OK- big bruising on his head etc but nothing else.I have to keep an eye on him for vomiting etc but all seems well. I am just furious with the makers and have rung them and the shop where I bought it from. They are getting back to me, NATURALLY they have never heard of this before. What else should I do I am VERY concerned about this gate and for the safety of others.
you need to check you have the gate set up right as al our gates touch the floor. then get photos of bub and the gate and stairs, take this to the company demanding an explanation. if they are at fault you can demand(nicely)compensation, if you are at fault rest assured it wont happen again, thank god bub is ok. make a detailed report about it .
Oh,so sorry. I know how it feels when the little ones get hurt and you feel so responsible. Take a deep breath and have a cup of tea. These things need to be taken very seriously and you did the right thing getting him seen to right away, take care I really feel for you. Good thing babies rebound quickly,Mom's don't!!!
Its very infuriating when a product doesn't do what it says it will! My daughter had two tumbles downstairs.....once at 6 months when she crawled halfway up the stairs in our 'new' house in the UK. I was up on the landing being very excited about the new house for which we'd just got the keys....anyway, I looked down from the landing, saw her half way up and called out her name in shock. Result? She looked up (duh of course) and fell backwards head over heels all the way back down to the bottom. The second time she was 3 and virtually cartwheeled down a friends ultra steep Victorian stairs.....the good news is that babies and young children are very 'cartilage rich' zones and I can happily report no lasting results! It does give you a hell of a scare though. Glad he's fine....clever little chap.......
Hi
Thank goodness bub is ok

is there any chance you could unscrew the gate from the wall and lower the hinges so baby can't fit through? just so you would never have to go through it again?
or maybe it would be best to buy a new one, coz you said you had trouble opening it when you went after bubs...
Will be getting a different gate for sure as this gate was errected correctly. It is probably one that not many people have seen, its called Kiddy Guard and is 'kind of ' like a blockout blind that goes on a window, but this retacts horizontally and material a lot stronger. It was the only one they recommended for stairs as it didn't have a rail across the bottom that could be tripped over.
Want to know basically what my rights are in this case, as I will not be content until some action is taken. The place I bought it and the importers did not even ask if my son was OK. BOUGHT FROM THE BABY HUB IN BRISBANE FORTITUDE VALLEY at the Emporium.
i hope you take things further with this company, take photos of your baby, the gate, the height of the stairs etc, and hopefully they can stop selling such a dangerous product therefore stopping other children falling down stairs.
the best way to go is to get a solid wooden gate and screw it to the wall, use a latch on the other side,
i had one made for me, here is the link if you are interested...
xx channy
You did everything you could do for your little one after his tumble, and I'm glad to hear he wasn't seriously hurt!. As for the gate, tell everyone you know what make it is and what happened. Word of mouth is very powerful!
